dogbone wrecked?

Featured Replies

Hey folks. i'm getting quite a shuddering when pulling away or reversing on hills/quickly. reckon it's either clutch or dogbone related.  the other engine mounts seem ook. I checked my timing and it seems ok but does waver +-0.6 (measuring block 4))

how does this dogbone look? missing some rubber but still enough?

While you have it off. I would change it. For the cost it's worth doing

That bottom part doesn't look to healthy to me. I'd stick a new one in.

Thanks guys.

Gonna pick up a new one from TPS tommorrow, same price as online and no wait!

Hopefully it's not this and the clutch hahaha

I had same issue on my 406. Dodgy feel to the clutch. Dogbone engine mount ripped. The lower one was in two half's. Changed and felt like a new car

This is what mine looked like when I removed it at 30k miles

Just thought the same thing lol rubber looks in good condition, nicely bonded to the outer plastic rim and no cracks in the outer plastic rim.

That's my point.... The one I removed looked good and wasn't causing me any issues. Just thought it would help the op to see what a decent one looked like and where his problem probably is.

(Sorry I wasn't clearer with what I was getting at :p )

That bush/mount looks fine to me. I think you may be seeing remnants of the webbing from when the rubber part is manufactured that is making you think it looks worse than it is. The tatty looking frayed bits of rubber in the cavities serve no purpose at all.

Oh well, I will find out tomorrow!

Good to have the spare one so i can put a superpro or powerflex in the old one and try that in the future

The new one ended up looking pretty much the same as the one i've got so i left it for now. Will have to get a camera mounted under there for a wee drive

It's the clutch/DMF causing the problem as you correctly guessed, doubly so now that you've eliminated the dogbone bush.

Thanks sepulchrave. yeh seems quite likely. I see hugely varying prices on clutches. anybody got a ballpark for a something cheapish but decent quality? I don't think i will ever really put too much power in this so probably no need for uprated but could be worth keeping that option open if they are ok price wise?

Thanks

Stick to LUK or Valeo if keeping standard

Hey folks. After a bit of thinking it may well just be me driving poorly. Been riding the clutch a bit more lately and accelerating from idle a bit more before engaging the clutch and i'm not getting any shaking really now.

Before i was tending to always lift the clutch to get going and not touching the accelerator. I think that was putting too much load at low RPM on the engine/transmission and causing the shaking.

What do other people do in a 1.9tdi when pulling off on flats/hills? It's my first car let alone diesel so i might just be a numpty!

Thanks

My standard vrs I had I used to pull away at 11/1200ish rpms no juddering at all.

My current car has a 4 paddle clutch and needs significantly more rpms and will still judder, but this is because of the type of clutch.
