Ste's Xmas Detail - Swissvax Onyx plus other goodies

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Merry Christmas chaps – I hope Santa has been good to you all!  :beer:  :beer:  :beer:

So after the festivities I finally found time to give the .:R36 a wash n wax;

giving me a chance to try out some detailing goodies from the advent calendar, namely:-

- 50cal Ambush Snow Foam

- Liquid Elements Blue Sheep Wash mitt

- Gtechniq T1 Tyre & Trim

- Swissvax Onyx Wax

A typical foam, rinse and wash routine, but to elaborate on detailing products used:-

- Foamed with AD foam lance using 50cal Ambush foam

- Wheels with Auto Finesse Revolutions using Daytona Speedmaster brush and WoWo wheel mitt

- Rinse

- Wheel arches foamed & fully rinsed with underbody lance attachment.

- Wash with LE Blue Sheep wash mitt and Britemax Cleanmax Shampoo

- Rinse

- Spray with Last Touch diluted weak mix (rinse/drying aid)

- Dry with Definitive Wax Drying towel and Metrovac blower

- Door shuts, exhausts and alloys: wipedown with Sonax BSD using Dark Blue BOA MF's

- Tyres with Gtechniq Tyre & Trim

- Windows Exterior topped with Sonax BSD using Light Blue BOA MF's.

- Waxed with Swissvax Onyx (10-15min cure time; although 24 hr cure possible)

- Wax applied with Auto-Finesse Handi-puck+80mm black wax pad; buffed with CarPro 500gsm Grey BOA

- Final wipedown and buff using the WaxPack Green BOA MF's.

50cal Ambush:

Smells great, gave a thick heavy foam which cleaned the car amazing well.

No question about the abilities of this product; so i would recommend it.

LE Blue Sheep Wash Mitt:

I cant recall when i got this during the year - but it was never on my list of priorities.

BUT for 2016 i'm looking for some alternatives on the wash mitt/pad options.

This isn't the cheapest, glad i got it for free. Very soft though and worked well on the day.

Perhaps a bit small for my hands - so definitely not for everyone on that issue alone!

I gave it a whirl in the washing machine after use and air-dried - so will re-use again.

Gtechniq T1 Tyre & Trim:

I gave the tyres a good clean, degrease and scrub with a firm brush to remove as much of any old products as possible.

As per the application instructions - a light single coat gives a clean matt look to the tyres.

I left this to cure/dry and the started waxing. Once waxing was complete - i came back to the tyres

and added a second coat which should increase gloss.... and it certainly does - producing a very nice finish.

Swissvax Onyx:

An interesting one - as its a brand i havent really been urged to look at or investigate.

I was extremely intrigued  by SWMBO's choice on this as a suitable Christmas present.

Firstly - the smell of the wax itself is lovely - truly makes using it an absolute pleasure.

Using the wax puck system the applicator pad was loaded and covered 2 panels easily.

Easy on and Easy off.... with a very impressive gloss and slickness to the paint.

Top marks to SWMBO on his wildcard wax choice.... hard to find a negative comment really.

Pictures below from the days work. Pretty happy with the pictures too; as SWMBO gave me an iPhone 6S as my last Xmas present - a nice update from the old 4S   :thumbup:

Looking good there Ste. Some nice products used. I have used Ambush before and found it very good.

I have Gtechniq wash mitt. Very good. Glides over the paint with no issues

Thanks for the comment James - appreciated :thumbup:

Mark (O.C.D) has been raving about 50cal stuff for a while and i am starting to understand why;

the snow foam is great, the glaze is superb and the Penta wax is a stunner too.

The Gtechniq mitt looks really good actually; i did look at those in the Xmas sales.

If only with they did a wash pad version of it, which is my preference.

Hence why i have ordered a Microfiber Madness Incredipad instead....

I do have some 50cal glass cleaner to try out.

I'm not a pad fan. I'm too clumsy lmao and would drop it.

Awesome work fella :thumbup:

The level of gloss you've achieved there is exceptional Ste!! Onyx is a wax I've only heard good things about, and after this, I can see why!

50cals shampoo is also a good one mate, I should pick up a sample of penta wax really after I was so impressed with Cover Ups filling ability.

Absolutely Neil....

From what i have read Onyx is the go to product in the range; above this they become very fickle indeed.

Very pleased with this product and the results on the .:R36..... certainly one i'll use again and again!  :thumbup:

Looking great Ste! The gloss levels are something else!

Just an update on the Swissvax Onyx wax guys. Very happy with the results andi really think its performing well.

Although the weather has been pretty poor and wet; the .:R36 is still looking great and the water behaviour is superb.

Also - after a chat with a few other Swissvax fanboys and info from Swissvax themselves;

the 15 minute cure time i allowed was perhaps on the short side.

More towards 30 mins recommended especially at these temperatures.

So hoping for a detailing day on Sunday and Alan-R36 coming over.... so will perhaps try it out then... :thumbup:

Glad to hear your still impressed. I wouldn't expect anything less from a company like Swissvax to be honest. Likewise with Definitive.

I've been eyeing up some 50ml sample pots of Best of show & Onyx. There's a sample pot of Paul Dalton Crystal Rock floating about to but it's a little on the expensive side (£220 LOL!)

Haven't heard any bad reviews on any Swissvax products! Enjoy :)

Great wax! Get some cleaner fluid for that bit extra from it in terms of gloss and wetness.

Car is looking pristine.

Just a thread update on SV Onyx.

Applied this in my .:R36 two weeks back and still love it;

Alan helped me on this detail too and was very impressed.

So I loaned Alan the wax for a week to try out too.

Very easy on and off with stunning results everytime :)
