Hi there, I recently got my new 65 plate L&K Octavia Estate and I may have dropped a clanger with the option list.  Whilst I do obviously have bluetooth hands free phone, the telephone button on the steering wheel does nothing (Think I get a message on the maxidot saying feature not installed).   My last 2 Octavias have had this and I really miss it.  It's like the mobile phone is only functioning via the head unit.

 

Main thing is when I get a text I have little notification from the Columbus (Optional upgrade) head unit  - Yes, if you do pro-actively go into phone mode and look at messages you may just see a tiny number 1, however if like me you leave the infotainment on Radio mode and if you don't hear the bleep from the phone, well that's it, you will never know you have an urgent text telling you to turn around.  You don't get an indication from the head unit that I have rec'd a text.

 

On my Previous Octavia, it would notify me on the maxidot stating:  1 new message, and it was really easy to spot this and to select it and view the message without even hardly taking your eyes off the road.

 

How can I get this feature added back in - and at what cost, does anybody know please?

 

I'm so annoyed as I went mad with the options and it has cost me a fortune so I am more than a bit miffed that the phone operates in such a poor way.

 

Any help please?

Trip to dealer? BT not working properly?

 

Mine phone works via BT only didn't know it reads text messages on Maxidot. Maybe it's new feature for MIB II mine is I generation. :(

An urgent text !!!!!

If somebody wants me to turn around, they need to call with a bloody good reason, or very big tits, they make me turn around too!

Sounds to me as though some recent cars are coming to the UK not coded properly...or it could be an infotainment software bug?

The text message behaviour is normal...unless you have the sound on your phone switched on to indicate message tones its not obvious when you get a text message just a tiny envelope symbol appears on the main screen by the signal and battery indicators for the phone. Though I am sure mine does this if in any mode but only for the phone that is set to master at the time.

Same issue with a different handset?

I was told by the dealer that all his MY16's had the same issue.

I didn't realise the Columbus did SMS notification anyway! How's it meant to work

Might be cheaper and easier to get a different phone, Ive got a Lumia and it reads the texts out over the info system and gives me the option to reply,  all by voice, seems pretty accurate too so far, better than the Renault I had before.

Phone button works fine on our 65 plate L&K, but we have the 3 spoke wheel and no Columbus.
