2025 Superb sportline wagon - cant hang up calls via steering wheel thumb wheel

Featured Replies

hi all

i recently purchased a superb 2025 sportline.

Generally a Nice car but one thing i cant do is hang calls up via the thumb wheel on the steering wheel.

i can answer the call, i can hang a call up when im calling and its ringing but once the call is in progress i cant hand it up voa the thumb wheel, have to use the onscreen button on the infotainment screen.

I have turned android auto off and no difference.

Real PITA if you ask me as i have to take my eyes of the road to hang up a call!

Anyone else have this issue?

That’s very interesting,

I’ve a new Superb Estate SE L 2025 June build. Currently I had been unable to find a control on the wheel to stop/start a call. I find it distracting to need to tap the screen to start stop calls. I’m not with the cat at the moment, I’ll get to check this out in the next hour or so and report back👍🏻

Right, bad and good news.

Firstly, I connected via CarPlay (important see later on).

I made a few calls sat on the drive. All connected as you’d expect. However I could NOT get any to disconnect.

Next printed manual, page 79, almost totally useless apart from reference to the online manual.

OK, online manual, agin not the most helpful but initially looked hopeful. Sadly not gave lots of information that might help for conference calls and 2 devices linked to the car.

However not one mention of ending a call from the steering wheel.

Next, I asked the AI. I gave Make Model month and year of manufacture (Superb SE L 2.0 TDI 150 June 2025).

This was the important part of the response (that I haven’t checked as the rain is back in spades).

AI Reply:

Yes, you can usually end a call using the controls on the steering wheel of your Škoda Superb, but the process depends on your car's specific system and how the call was started.

· Ending via the Steering Wheel Controls: This works if the phone is selected on the instrument cluster screen.

· Using the Scroll Wheel: Press the right-hand side scroll wheel to answer or end a call.

· Using Arrow Buttons: The left/right arrows on the right side can help navigate to the phone screen.

· Call Initiated via Android Auto/Apple CarPlay: If you started the call through these systems (like via Google Assistant), you will likely need to use the red "end call" button on the car's touchscreen.

· Incoming Calls: You can usually answer these by pressing the right-hand scroll wheel, no matter what's displayed on the dash.

Why It Can Be Confusing

Your Superb's steering wheel controls are multi-purpose. The phone controls only function when the phone menu is active on the instrument cluster display. If you have another screen (like navigation or trip data) showing, pressing the scroll wheel will just interact with that instead.

Tips for Easier Use

· You can store favorite contacts in the car's system to make calling from the steering wheel easier.

· To consistently end calls from the wheel, make sure the phone screen is selected on the instrument cluster during calls. You can navigate to it using the right-hand arrow or scroll wheel buttons.

Hopefully you’ll find this helpfull. I may get around to trying again tomorrow rain, and time permitting without using CarPlay (that seems a bit of a retrograde step to me 🤷‍♂️).

I’ve tried this now on a few occasions - it’s never worked for me me 🤦‍♂️

hi john
its great to see that im not an idiot!

i tried everything you did and same result!

Also another thing i learnt about the superb and the phone is if you have the drivers door open you cant answer calls!!!! - how stupid is that!!!!!

im amazed that my wife $60K karoq sportline doesn't have this issue but my $75K superb does.

i contacted skoda australia for support on this issue as its a safety issue (imaging doing 100km down the freeway and having to take your eyes off the road to find the hung up button on the bloody screen!!!) and they basically said it is what it is so bugger off and were highly dismissive about it, pretty **** poor effort if you ask me.

im going to take it further with them and speak to our DOT and consumer affairs citing safety concerns hoping that will be a rocket up their praverbial.

but that all said im goning to try a few other things to see if i can get it to work.

I’ll try the using the phone with the door open tomorrow, I don’t expect to get a different response than you did 🤔

A bit late, I’d forgotten about this.

I have the same issue not able to answer calls with the drivers door open. I can make them 🤷‍♂️

Still not figured out how to (if I can) cancel calls from the steering wheel.

It’s the “thing” I miss most about my Passat 😩

i have asked skoda australia to escalate the isue.

if i get nowhere with them them i will speak to our consumer affairs, out dept of transport and ANCAP.

Octavia 4.5 is the same you can answer the call with the right scroll wheel (click it) but only hang up from the infotainment screen. Not that big a deal in my view and you could always just let the other party end the call 😀

unfortunately i do a bit of country (100km p/h) travelling and make quite a few calls in the car during the day and many times it goes to voice mail and i dont want to leave a message so thats why its a PITA and a safety concern.

This does seem like a backward step, and a road safety issue too. I just tend not to use the phone in my Superb now while I'm on the move.

hey fasto - sure does!!!
i tackled skoda australia about it and their response was effectively - bugger off, it is what it is!
they clearly dont care about client safety.
apparently the issue is present on several VW group vehicles not just the superb.
im going to take it further and speak to a few gov agencies for their take and if they will support my argument.

Every other car I've had with phone integration could be operated with the steering wheel controls, including my MK3 Superb.

well looks like skoda only put that in the lower cost models not the top end models!
i got the mrs a$60k karoq sportline 4x4 and it works but my $75k superb doesnt - figure that one out!

I’ve a June 2025 SE L, so your software should not be less able than mine.

I haven’t yet attempted this to be honest however:

In the 2025 Skoda Superb Estate SE L, the 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit is highly customisable, allowing you to manage phone calls without looking at the central infotainment screen. You can cycle through several distinct display modes by pressing the "View" button on the right side of the steering wheel.

Key Virtual Cockpit Display Modes for Calls

Classic View: Displays traditional circular dials for speed and RPM. The area between the dials can be configured to show a "Telephone" widget, displaying your current call status or a list of recent contacts.

Modern/Infotainment View: Shrinks the dials to the sides to make room for a large central display. This is ideal for seeing caller ID photos or navigating long contact lists using the steering wheel thumb wheel.

Basic View: A minimalist layout that shows only essential driving data (like speed and range). When a call comes in, a pop-up notification will appear briefly to allow you to answer using the wheel.

Extended View: The phone or media information covers the entire width of the display, with your speed shown as a small digital readout at the bottom—perfect if you want your call details to be the primary focus.

How to Customise the Display

Select Layout: Press the lower right button ("View") on the steering wheel to choose one of the five basic layouts.

Adjust Widgets: Use the right-hand thumb wheel to highlight a specific part of the display (like the left or right dial "well") and click it to cycle through options until you find "Telephone".

Hopefully this will help🤞
