Service at 28,000 miles.

Featured Replies

HI my octavia diesel vrs 2012 is coming up for its third service,on the last service it had the oil changed, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter cabin filter changed does it need a major service yet,or maybe the dsg servicing. Cheers John.

Given the mileage, it is three years old and is now due it's third service would hint at it being on fixed service intervals (12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever is reached first) rather than the variable intervals (up to 2 years or 20,000 miles).

The last (second) service was a major...

Minor = oil and oil filter

Major = oil and oil filter + air filter + fuel filter + pollen filter.

Brake fluid should be changed on it's third birthday then every two years.

I think DSG oil change is 40,000 miles / 4 years? This is for the 6 speed box. I understand the 7 speed box is sealed / non-serviceable.

So to answer your question a minor service will suffice @ £139 (franchised main dealer)...

If you ever ask for a major service (£259) make sure you are getting the extra's. If they aren't required they won't fit them but will still charge you!

It is unusual for you to have had the air, fuel and pollen filters done on the second service, these aren't usually needed until beyond 60,000 miles or 3 years.

Personally all three additional filters (air, fuel and pollen) are so easy to fit I do them myself, all you need it a Torx screwdriver!

Thanks for the info mate, all services I've had have been by a local garage.

Something for you to consider.....don't just book your car in at a Skoda dealer and pay each time you go. I had 3 years free servicing and after the last one I signed up to a 3 year service plan- 2 major services, 1 minor, 3 mots plus aircon service and brake fluid change which worked out considerably cheaper than the national pricing plan. There are other options obviously from DIY through using an Indy to doing as Silver suggests. pick the one that suits you but don't pay more than you have to. Happy new year.

P.S. Skodas are still relatively cheap to service as can be testified by my mate with a c series merc... his minor costs more than my major.... and both are used as taxis....

Just one more thing, can you reset the service indicator yourself I've still got about a month to go before it runs out. I'm buying the oil and filter myself and paying cash for the garage to do it.

Why would the garage not reset it if they are servicing it?

A decent garage with the correct tools to service a VW group car should have the required info to reset the indicator themselves, otherwise I'd be going elsewhere.

If your car has never been near a dealer, then its missed all its workshop campaigns and recalls. IIRC a diesel vRS has had several of these along the way.

You can reset yourself using the instrument panel, search YouTube, 2 minute job.

Ok, I'll do that.....:p

The point I was making, as Manny also made. If the garage didn't know how too, and didn't at least have VCDS to do it then I wouldn't trust them with the service.

Which is a valid point, but not what the guy was asking.

As above you can reset the service indicator yourself using the procedure outlined in the manual, or by watching this...

This process only works if you are on the fixed service regime (10,000 miles or 12 months whichever is reached first). If you are on variable (up to 2 years or 20,000 miles) then only a dealer or an independent garage with VCDS can do this.

Or use this link to find a member with VCDS close to you, a few beer tokens usually does the trick!

Thanks silver1011, that might be useful to me as well in the future.

Thanks for the replies guys,I was just thinking maybe he wouldn't do it,if I only I had an oil change, and not a full service, and do you think he should stamp my service book, because the likes of kwik fit won't.

Yes, he should reset the service computer and stamp the book.

Not all local garages have the funds to invest in all of the diagnostic computers for all vehicle manufacturers, this is after all one of the reasons they are cheaper than the main dealers.

Most basic code readers allow for it to be done though, and most competent mechanics will be familiar with the service interval reset on VAG cars.
