Windscreen washers

Featured Replies

Does anyone else find the windscreen washers on the MK3 Octavia a bit "Wishy Washy"  :D  I mean they work, and the spray seems sufficient but it's more of a mist of water rather than a sploosh, My headlight washers are like Niagara Falls and so is the rear washer. I only use Skoda approved washer fluid, and the jets are clean.

They are designed to spray more of a mist/fan type pattern as opposed to the traditional jet. This is because the washers can cover the same (or more) of the windscreen area by using less water.

Yeah, I find the latest style of washers much more effective at reaching all of the swept area.

The old two (or four if you drove something German or Swedish :D) thick streams of water often left smears where the washer fluid didn't reach.

I wish they'd stop emptying half the bottle over the headlights at the 1st squirt.

Other than that the "windscreen" side seems to work quite well.

Mine has no headlight washers but they never look dirty. Weird.......

I think how often it does that can be changed with VCDS.

It's to do with the beam pattern from the xenon's I think, because it's more focused than standard headlights.

The headlights will accumulate dirt (however invisible) over time, and that can cause the light emitted to be refracted in abnormal directions, dazzling other people. Therefore it's law that all xenon headlights have washers fitted.

Something like that anyway....

The headlight washers can be embarrassing. I was stopped at traffic lights and decided to clean the windscreen, the cyclist beside me got a decent wash when the headlight washers decided to kick in. :x I apologised but the guy just said "It's OK mate, I was wet already".  :D

I really wish the car would do 1 headlight and then the other rather than both at the same time - the drop in light output is significant.

Sounds like too much faffing to me that. It's only momentary, it resumes to normal within a few seconds of finishing.

We've just availed ourselves of a 2012 Ford Galaxy (forced purchase - 2yo twins plus an unexpected 3rd due soon - lottery numbers appreciated) and the windscreen washers are akin to a single eskimo with a dodgy prostate relieving himself over the front of the car. Given the windscreen is so monumentally huge you'd expect the washers to have some oomph but instead it's like someone's standing on the hose. Makes me grateful for the soaking the Octavia's jets give the screen, the wing mirrors and passers by within a 3 mile radius.

Car enthusiasts ehh... Never happy (myself included!)...

On the SeatCupra.net Leon Mk3 forum there is a sticky to convert traditional '3 stream' washer nozzles to the fan jet system on the Octy 3.

As for the single headlight wash at a time, I think this is S Class Merc territory.

Hi all

My windscreen washer bottle

On mk3 octavia vrs seems to empty very fast (warning light coming up on dash regurarly) anybody else have this problem?

Thanks

Don't have headlight washers, but the volume and coverage of the windscreen washers is considerably increased if the concentration of the err concentrate in the washer bottle is increased. Currently I am using 50% + of  Triple QX.

During winter yes. Darker mornings and evenings means the headlight washers spray more often, plus the salt and grime from the roads means the windscreen gets sprayed more often. How fast is yours emptying?
