Tiny brown spots over paintwork

Featured Replies

Just washed my Octy (colour diamond silver) for the 1st time since buying it (6 years old) and noticed that the roof and some other parts of the paintwork is covered with lots of tiny brown speckles that almost look like rust (but it isn't) What do you think it is and how can it be removed? Thanks

Tar maybe??

try autoglym tar remover, or a clay bar, but thats pretty labour intensive

If it's not rust or tar it could have been damaged by sparks from welding or grinding - if that's the case T-Cut might shift it depending on the depth.

could be little bits of poo?

I had a similar experience with my previous Cayennne metallic Octavia, only i was experiencing purple marks, nothing would get rid of them.

maybe the birds had been eating berries?

maybe the little blighters had been eating chilli, i couldnt shift it-tried everything.

did you try peeing on it?

poo spatter? you didn't leave a tradesmens in a hurry did you?

Admittidly no, eventually got rid of the marks/stains by trading it in!

good method, i considered that when i ran out of petrol

Get a clay bar on it.

Have your neighbours been creosoting their fences recently?

And hot-dang, first wash since you bought it 6 years ago... S H A M E O N Y O U ! ! ;)

get the woman to do it, make them earn their keep! :D

On a slightly more serious note  I take it you havent had the car long? and that you bought it at 6 years old.

If so are you sure it was never used as a taxi? this is a problem that taxis have due to using magnetic door signs that we peel of when not working, they cause hundreds of tiny surface rust speckles to appear on top of the paint, you can t-cut/clay bar them off no problem.

Otherwise it's probably tar from a recently re-laid road, or that f*cking ridiculous new practice of just spraying a new surface on top of the sh*tty old road surface!!

Thats okay in theory, but my wife misses whole panels, I kid you not!:bullwhip:

then u sugest you use that whip that you seem so accomplished with and show where she went wrong :)

Here's my theory, and I know because it used to happen to all the cars on my street.

There are certain trees that in the spring produce this yellow sap stuff. If it gets on your car it does look like little spots of rust. It comes off with a good bit of elbow grease though.

I don't think you need to park under the tree though, the stuff seems to spread everywhere.

It could have been parked near an Iron Foundry/engineering works (appaerntly we still have some in the UK) & this could be the fall out from the extractors, you will need some Oxalic acid (Boots the Chemist) this will **** it without damagng the paintwork.

Oh Come On Swear Filter !!!

That was s-h-i-f-t !!!
