VRS 225/40/18 tyres, anything better than Uniroyal Rainsport 3 at their current price?

Featured Replies

I need 2 new rear tyres, inside worn on my current 2 so I probably need 4 wheel tracking too, and I can get 2 RS3's delivered from Camskill for £110, is there anything better for a similar peice?

I've got 2 Goodyear Eagle F1 AS2's on the front and they're fantastic but they're also an extra £65 or so at the minute...

Thanks for the reply, are they really at least £35 better? I may have spent way too much over Christmas and my budget is really tight...

Several people on Pistonheads (and here I believe) have had sub 10k miles from a set (like 6-8k range). This does make it seem less of a bargain. There seems to be no qualms about performance only longevity.

If you can stretch to the F1A2 it might all be equal in the end if the life is longer.

I squeezed 14k from a front set on my Superb compared to just shy of 12k for Michelin PS3s.

I had read a few reviews saying they wore very quickly, I only do 3-4k a year anyway so that's at least a couple of years for me, I'll re-check my finances and see if I can afford anything better, if not the RS3's will have to do me this time around. :)

Goodyear F1A3 is out now I believe, though I can't really find any reviews. I'd probably go for these based on how well reviewed the AS2 were.

Just put another set of RS3's on my car - £70 each fully fitted from a local indie.

I can get around 18K miles from a front set which I don't think is too bad.

Wet weather grip is very good and dry is good enough.

For the combination of price, grip and miles covered I don't think you can go wrong.

Ive just orderd 4 Ultrac Sessantas from Camskil, 65 quid each.

I have them on my RX8 and they are brilliant tyres!! grip is incredible, even in the wet, so gonna try them on the Octo, if i dont like them ill use them as a track set for my Mazda.

I needed them for the mazda as they have stiffer side walls, and the 8 corners fast!!, hopefully they will be as good on the skoda.

ill report back

Front set on the Accord have about 18k on them and look like they'll make it to ~24k

Read up on the RS3s being very grippy but not very long lasting.

I'd be pretty ****ed to only get 8k from a set of tyres unless I was driving like an utter arse.

Just pushed the boat out and fitted Michelin pilot sport 4's on mine, only done 5 mile on them so far.

Agreed! Done well over 25k on a set with loads of life let in them yet. Great all-round tyre and quiet too.

I am running Yokohama blue earth AE50 on my VRS they seem a very good alround tyre and were around £70 each .

All four on mine are michelin sport 3 and they seem pretty good in wet or dry

Pilot sports for the win.

Just had to replace two of my one year old F1AS2's (non-repair puncture and broken valve leading to running tyre flat for long distance leading to side-wall damage).

So frustrating, so much tread left on both.

Anyway, replaced with F1AS3's - so we'll see how they go. The F1AS2's have been excellent for the past year.

I'm about the get some Ultrac Sessantas for the Civic - they get a cracking review and are about the same price ATM

^^^ still waiting for mine to turn up from Camskill.

They are in great demand in 225/40/18 and 225/45/18 (which my other car uses)

and they take some getting hold of, however worth the wait, they are amazing tyres!! you will not be dissapointed!

All the ones chosen above, i would take Vredies over them all day long,

Got the new boots fitted this morning!! need a scrub in a little, but grip is amazing already!! Better than the Contis that were on!! little bit of tyre roar, but i like that anyway.

Surprised at the tyre roar - they're supposed to be rated at 67dB...

Yeah i meant in comparison to what was on before, its minimal, but just sounds more compared to the previous boots.

Had a little play out today, and i knew these tyres were good after running them on my RX8 for several years, so was not sure how they would be on the Octo.

I can confirm that they are excellent!! look great too, very distintive tread pattern.

With the tyre width and the stock geometry setup there will always be abit of tyre roar. Even with low rated db tyres. It doesnt bother me as I know that the car has a sports setup and has the grip there when needed with decent tyres and geo setup

The open tread design also makes for quite a din. It traps noise much more easily. Also remember its 67dB drive by; not inside the car.

I had a set of VS before and they wore really quick (8k miles!) compared to the Hankook V12 Evos (10k). I didn't particularly like them either; I didn't find them consistent in the wet weather. Shame as I love the SporTrac3s they did

Funny you say that, as ive had them on my mazda for quite a while, and do track days on them. The grip is staggering even in the wet.

My mazda has quite a bit more power than my skoda and its RWD, and ive never felt compremised with them fitted.

been on my car 15k now, and still plently left on them.

Agree re the Sportrac3's - ran them for years and an excellent tyre - shame they made a wholesale tread design change for the 5's and went the same as everybody else with circumferential grooves rather than n actual tread pattern...

Just changed 2 primacy 3, done 50000km on them.

Excellent tires.
