Picking up a new vrs !

Featured Replies

Iv ordered a new vrs and was wondering what happens when picking it up when I picked up my last new Vw they had it in a special room with a sheet over it do skoda do the same kind of thing

Adam

Think it very much depends on the dealer how they do it, what dealer is it and someone on here might have had an experience there already

The dealer is listers skoda Coventry what happened when you picked your car up at your dealers

Ask the salesperson what they do maybe?

Listers are usually quite good, lots of handover pics on their Facebook pages.

Oh right I don't have Facebook I'll try and have a look

If you would like the 'big reveal' then just ask, a lot of dealers will do what they can. I like to pick my cars up indoors so it's dry and any blemishes can be seen plus I stay dry too while looking over the car.

I reckon you lot are bonkers haha sheet over it - now I've heard it all !

I've bought 2 from new, sorry but I don't really understand a need for red carpet treatment pampering.

Let the car do the talking and leave that kind of foolishness for the BMW and Merc brigage.

But I guess they are car dealers and looking to make money, I guess if you even asked nicely to get the receptionst to fluff you up before you got the car it could be arranged too for enough money lols.

Just get the car, the car alone will be great, no need for any other silliness.

Just to clarify, I've never had a sheet over my car, I pick up in doors so I can look over the outside properly, especially in the current weather.

Mine got the full reveal at the dealers, it was covered up and once I was handed the keys, it was unveiled.

It may have been because it was only the second Mk3 vRS they had sold.

Not wholly necessary but I did enjoy the experience!

I think if the dealer has undergone Skodas (somewhat enforced) branding refresh you might get the big reveal.

I used to buy all my Skodas from Jewsons in Oxford...they have been part of the Ridgeway group for some time but recently moved from their old school showroom setup near Oxford city centre to a purpose built centre at a motor park on the city outskirts (was Ridgeways old Audi centre)...Id wager alot had changed there. I dont live in Oxford any more so havent had a chance to sample the dealer experience, though I do now use Birchwood in Eastbourne for servicing and they have just moved and rebranded themselves and its pretty nice I have to say.

Not sure i'll be buying another one so I may never find out!

Mine was parked on the forecourt with another VRS and a Scout. No separate room. No sheet. No paparazzi!! Ha ha. To be honest I'm with vRSAnt, less is more and the car's the star.

Although in the way of "perks or showiness" if it happened to come with a sexy blonde in the front seat as a perk I wouldn't complain - just don't tell the wife haha !

( for anyone included if you prefer to imagine the blonde can be a man whatever your thing lol )

I bet in certain circles, if you were buying say an Aston Martin or Ferrari or something I bet that might even have been arranged in the past lol

Birchwoods have a dedicated handover bay now, that's where mine was, no unveiling though not sure I'd be comfortable with it on anything less than a supercar!

When I collected mine it was in a separate room divided from the showroom by glass.  The whole handover experience was too long and took the best part of two hours.  Clearly the salesman enjoyed it more than me.  We did the paperwork first, he explained which brochure/manual was for what, did a slow flick through, showed me the key, explained how it works.  Took forever!  Then we got to the car, looked around (surprise surprise it was the car I ordered) got inside, explained everything (or tried to as he didn't really know what CarPlay was) which I really didn't need as I've had a MK2 Superb and they are all the same in layout (pretty much).  Then he insisted we go on a test drive...took forever as well!

The ideal handover for me would have been:

1. arrive at showroom

2. sign paperwork (car had already been paid for in full by bank transfer)

3. be given key

4. drive away

No need for it to take more than 5 minutes :)  If anything doesn't work I'd just go back, leave the key on the table and they'd fix it.

I also needed to catch a flight in the evening :)  When my mum went to collect her BMW back in 2010 they had all the bells and whistles...video was project on all of the walls, music...I hated it.  Funnily enough I was also getting a flight that day and mum was driving me.

On a separate note....has anyone ever read the manual?  I mean properly, page by page?  There is probably a lot I've missed over the years, but I never read the manual for anything :)

Hi all thanks for your replys I'm not really bothered if there's a big reveal of not I was just wondering what skoda did once you go pick it up I do however like the sound of paparazzi and a tall blond with big Bristols lol

If you got an iPhone you can download the Skoda service app which has the manual plus a whole lot of other stuff.

Been reading through on the 2 hour public transport to work while I await mine to be delivered.

For my recent purchase (TBH it was only half the price of a new car so not quite the same!) the car was around the side of their building in view, and just ready to drive off in, and had been cleaned and polished and prepped to like new condition.

Was dealt with much courtesy and care from the sales staff - if anything that makes you feel more special rather than exactly where the car is sat.

I was happy about the fact it was ready to go, no peeing about to be honest, but was also in a good position for any inspection. Then again the weather, whilst not summer, was also not wet etc so it was quite clear for looking about the car to be happy with.

Pretty much the same with my new purchase of a vRS before it and the Fabia 1 I had before that.

Mind you neither of them ( except my used 2nd hand one ) are what you'd consider top of the range in the sense of executive class which might come with higher expectations? I suppose in some cases they might strech so far as booking you into a hotel gratis before collecting the car etc. I have no idea.

To be fair, I suppose if I was paying full money 25K+ new might to feel a bit (Borat mode on) "king of the castle, king of the castle" lol and have them running about like blue arse flies hehe go do this, go do this
