VRS Tdi Oil Capacity

Featured Replies

Morning All,

I've got a Octy VRS estate - had it about 10 months and have covered approx 12,500 miles. Its on long life service intervals (18Ks). Its on a maintained lease.

I was out on the road and got a low oil warning. Upon pulling over and checking i did see the oil level was a little below the optimum level.

I checked with Skoda driverline who told me to get it looked at as a matter of urgency.

I ended up at DM Keith in Hudderfield - they were great! - It did need the oil topping up - i was told the VRS oil tank is extremely small at 4.6 Litres and needs checking approx every 2 to 3 weeks or so

What worries me is the high level of oil consumption - at least 3 litres over 12K. I know itll use more oil running in but is this normal?

cheers

VW say 1litre per 1000 miles is acceptable.

So yours isnt bad.

Get into the habit of checking your oil, fluids, tyres and lights monthly. Will keep you safe.

VW says nothing of the kind.

Well someone might, because some try to say 1 litre in 1,200 miles is acceptable.

Try to get them to say that 8 litres between fixed servicing is OK and put it in writing,

or maybe 12 litres top up between variable servicing.

They 'VW, SKODA, AUDI, SEAT', say

'may use as much as 0.5 litres 1000km,  (621 miles, so 1,242 miles 1 litre)

might use more in the first 5,000 km'

Then they have Driving Style stuff, towing over high mountain passes in summer and such,

(Not much to do with normal driving in West Yorkshire and stuff.)

They say that for 3,4,5,6,8 cylinder engines, petrol and diesel.

and as low power as 44kW, and with an oil capacity of 3.2 litres.

4.6 Litres is not a Small Capacity Oil Sump.  only for a Skoda Dealership talking sharn.

?

Did you check how much oil was in when you got the car, or anytime since?

then you might have some idea how much oil it used.

Unless I'm missing something, did DM Keith's put three litres in it to get it back up to the maximum?

Gaz

Is it normal?

You will receive a myriad of answers to that question.

From personal experience, mine used 0.4l from new to its first service and didn't use any between its first and second, I still have over half a litre of the original bottle of oil the car was provided with when new.

The car has now covered over 20k mixed driving and yes, I do check my oil regularly...

To be fair, on my old MK4 Golf GTI, I had to top up with a litre of oil regularly. I had the car 12 years and it was always the same. That was around every 1500 to 2000 miles. I had the car from 18 months old. After getting the first "top up oil" message on my dash, I went to the main dealer. They confirmed that this was nothing to worry about and that I should "expect to top up the oil every 1500 miles." And this I did for 12 years and the car ran sweet as a nut in all that time. So VW DO say this. And I lived it for over ten years of trouble free motoring.

LOL.

You accepted it with a MK4 Golf, and you let them con you really.

Was that a VW Franchised Dealer Employee,?

that is not Volkswagen a World Wide Corporation.

If only everything in life was as reliable as a Volkswagen

(and some VW Dealership Employees, they would be great as politicians.)

ie they do not blush or blink when lying.

£13 plus a Litre a VW Dealership are happily charging Customers for Long Life Oil.

VW even boast over Fuel Economy also Green Credentials, low CO2 etc,

but running a 2 Stroke would cost less for Fuel & Oil than some VW Engines.

Give your head a wobble. What part of "over 10 years of trouble FREE motoring don't you understand?" No leaks. No smoke. It was what it was. And no I didn't have a contact at "Volkswagen the world wide corporation" I am quoting what I was told. Totally independent of glosrich's experience. Your assertion that VW "say nothing of the kind" just isn't accurate, regardless of "conning" and LOL'ing. LMAO.

If your engine uses 1 litre in 1,000 miles now then you get your Engine Oil provided by Volkswagen, Skoda, Audi or Seat until

your Engine is replaced,

They VW do not say 1 litre in 1,000 miles is acceptable, some employees wrongly say it.

Not fit for purpose, simple as that.

What someone told you more than a decade ago is sometimes said now at Dealerships. by idiots that would never accept that from their cars.

Even 0.5 Litre in 1000 km as said by VW, Skoda, Audi & Seat in Owners Manuals has been shown as unacceptable oil consumption in Euro 5 Engines and resulted in thousands being rebuilt, and now replaced, and even replacement engines being replaced.

In the case of the 1.4 TSI / TFSI 132-136 kW Twinchargers, an Engine Update after Breather Mods. ECU Updates,

Now Oil Spray Jet upgrades and the engines discontinued.

0.3 litres in 1000km was not an acceptable oil consumption, as many Dealers Official Tests showed,

and where owners got new engines fitted.

VW build lemons and where owners let them off, they just keep building lemons.

Where was the marker when you checked it yourself?

The difference between MIN & MAX on the dipstick is approx 1L. The "Low Oil Warning" activâtes at around 25% above MIN so you should have needed only 0.75L of oïl to top up. (1L at most)

so unless your engine was really empty (which would suggest to me a problem) the garage has been a bit cheeky to charge you for 3L.

If the oïl was above minimum when you checked it then there's nothing to worry about.

If the oïl was really below minimum & needed 3L I would be asking them where it is going.

4.6 Litres is not a Small Capacity Oil Sump.  only for a Skoda Dealership talking sharn.

For a 2.0l diesel engine, 4.6l is relatively small. Most are normally between 5 and 6l.

When VW / Audi had 2 litre TDI's with 3.8 litre oil capacity, that was mostly normal for those.

  • 9 years later...

Am about to do my first oil change. (Normally done at a mate's garage). I have a 2015 Octavia Scout TDi Mk III Type 5E (2lt - 110kw - 148ph). I had noted down that it required 4.5 litres. However I see 4.6 Lt is mentioned in the thread above. Just wondered if anyone had a definitive answer as to the correct amount of engine oil required. (I use Quantum Long Life 3/ HU720z Mann filter). Many thanks
