New to forum, Le Mans to do list... :)

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone. My name is Mike and I'm new in the forum.

I've had my 2011 Skoda Octavia 2 vrs diesel for a few months now. Great car pleased with it. I'm driving to Le Mans this year to go watch the race in France, so now I'm thinking about sorting out Bluetooth in the car as it requires control module, wiring loom, coding to enable it to work. Whilst I'm working on the car stripping some interior I'll do some additional work whilst I'm at it.

Bolero head unit Bluetooth kit. Can anyone please reconmend which Bluetooth kit to use for my car. I want to be able to use my existing head unit as it would have worked with factory Bluetooth rather than using a parrot kind of system.

I am going to hard wire my sat nav into the car to save using the cigar lighter socket by the handbrake and have cables across the dashboard etc. Does anyone know what the part number is for the wiring connection that go into the dash end plate e-box?? I'll add wire Into the e-box to create my circuit then wire into a 5v converter plug in wire for sat nav. Fuse the circuit with a normal size fuse.

Whilst hard wiring sat nav I'm going to fit a additional cigar/aux socket into the boot (so I can use it for camping fridge). Does anyone know the part number for auxiliary socket from an estate car??

Xenon European light conversion. Has anyone please got any information regarding adjustment?? Is it headlamp out and flick a tab to the side kind of thing to swap over to the different beam pattern?? If I can't convert I'll buy the stickers for the headlamps instead.

Interior lights. Whilst I've stripped parts of the glove box, trim abide pedals. Is it easy to add lights Into the kick panels??

Thank you for any information with my Le Mans things to do list lol. I'm an ex Audi tech (now working for other German brand) with vag-com happy to help other members if possible. Does anyone know where to get a copy of the genuine vag diagnostic program and elsa with parts catalogue application??

Thanks again, Mike S.

For both bluetooth and xenons it depends if you have a standard trip computer or maxidot fitted. There are a couple of images here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/231844-wanted-a-skoda-bought-one-lots-of-arguing-about-cam-belts-now-back-to-the-car/page-2#entry2725129

For bluetooth,  I think the general advice is to go with either the 7P6 035 730 J (or above) or 5K0 035 730 D. These are controlled by your headunit and don't need maxidot to allow you to pair your phone. If you do have maxidot then your best bet is a 3C8 035 730 D or E for the most functionality

As Mike mentions, assuming you're talking about headlight aim for travelling abroad it'll depend if you have halogens, aftermarket xenons or factory xenons and maxidot. The easiest way to check if you have factory xenons is that the silver trim around the lens will say 'bending xenon' - if it doesn't you either have an aftermarket xenon kit or stock halogens.

- stock halogens have a lever inside the headlamp to flatten the beam

- aftermarket xenons will probably have the same lever

- factory xenons can be set using maxidot (look for travel mode in settings, lights and visibility)

- factory xenons without maxidot requires diagnostic equipment

If you do have factory xenons without maxidot, please don't use a beam adjustment sticker! The xenons move up/down/left/right as you drive so the sticker won't help. Instead you'll need a dealer or VCDS to activate travel mode which disables the left/right movement and also aims the xenons down to avoid blinding other road users.

As for the fuse box crimps, I'm pretty sure the ones mentioned here are correct for the O2 FL: http://www.my-gti.com/601/addition-of-extra-circuits-to-the-volkswagen-golf-jetta-passat-eos-scirocco-rabbit-fuse-box

Hi Mikeholroyd and langers2k

Thanks for the cool information. I will now start to get parts ready for when I carry out my tasks.

After re reading what I said at 1st, I notice that's I didn't t say my car has factory fit xenon headlamps and it does not have maxidot. Tbh I never realised there was so many different variations of specs for the car. It's a shame my car does not have maxidot. I was thinking possibly retrofitting maxidot but not sure if it's actually possible and if so how expensive it will be.

Thanks for the info regarding the beam for the headlamps. I remember Audi's had an little catch inside you'd flip 1 side to the other but was not sure about the newer setup especially with xenon. I've got vag-com in work so I'll have a nosey through it and set them into travel mode when I go to France.

I'd also like to thankyou for the part numbers for Bluetooth modules. My car has not got built in sat nav. It had a shark fin antenna fitted but done think it's capable of gps. Previous owner had the roof carbon wrapped and think he fitted the particular antenna for show.

I shall do the wiring mod for the interior lights whilst I've got my soldiering iron and a couple rolls of wire, heat shrink, connectors etc

Thanks again for your information, I'm looking forward to spend a few hours on the car. I'll post some pics when I've completed it

MykeSmiff :)

I was under the impression that any car with factory xenons had maxidot as standard? Are you sure those xenons are factory OEM?

Mike

There is an autoscan from a FL xenon equipped car without maxidot in this thread: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/284531-bolero-bt-coding-rejected/ I think the only factory options that gave maxidot was a MFSW.

If you do want to retrofit maxidot it's certainly possible although not the simplest.

You would obviously need the maxidot cluster, the part number should start with 1Z0920943. There are various revisions of this but ideally you'd want one of the later versions running 06xx software and with the correct scales for a vRS TDi. Earlier software versions don't have all the icons required for later premium bluetooth units and just show empty boxes instead, this is purely a cosmetic issue. It is possible to update a maxidot cluster from 04xx to 06xx but it'll require specialist knowledge and tools.

The clusters come up now and again, for example there is an older version on eBay at the moment: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331748730841

Aside from this, you'd also need to some way to control the maxidot, your options are either to change the stalks or to add a multifunction steering wheel. I'm not too sure but this might need a new steering control module fitting depending what's already fitted.

Assuming all the above is done, the it's a case of recoding the immobiliser (it's part of the cluster) and correcting the odometer mileage. Eddie-nl is in Great Yarmouth and knows his stuff when it comes to cluster swapping, but you are quite a drive from him...

Oh, there are also 1Z0920843 clusters which appear to be for LHD markets, I've honestly no idea if these can also be used but Ed might know.

I hadn't even twigged about the mph/kph differences!

I think the scales are different and can be fixed in software. It's either an eeprom off or specialist software that can do it over odb although I can't remember the names. Probably best to stick with a 943 cluster...

Sure, I completely agree that there will be a universal speed signal on the CAN bus but I'd expect how the cluster interprets this to needle movement to be different. Especially as there are 160mph (~257kph), 240kph and 270kph versions of the cluster.

I fear we are wandering off topic slightly so I'll drop you a PM with some of my findings :)

Thanks again for the information :D

As far as I know the headlamps are standard skoda from the factory. Does not look after market inside headlamp like the usual kits available.

I thought it may involve instrument cluster, recoding etc, immobiliser. I used to do lots of dash pods on tt's especially. I considered changing steering wheel too. Think I'll save some money with those particular mods and get the car remapped instead.

When I buy my next vrs (current model) I'll do some research before thinking that looks cool I'll have it lol.

I've found some diagnostic software In the process of getting my personal diagnostics rather than using garage vag-com

Thanks again

mike :)
