Is this a thing Skoda offers anyone know? It would be quite fun I think to travel to Mladá Boleslav and drive my new vRS home through Europe.

I don't think so. Search on here as there was a thread last year.

Mercedes-Benz do it for customers but you have to pay for the privilege.

Knowing Czech bureaucracy it would be difficult to get transit licence plates for a right hand drive car.

Most of the German makers do it. BMW from BMW world in Munich looked good.

Reason I ask is I received the "Your new Skoda" email today from Skoda and following the links enclosed found this page:

http://www.skoda-auto.com/en/company/production-plants/mlada-boleslav/

At the bottom it says "Visitors and fans of the ŠKODA brand can also visit the new Company Museum. New ŠKODA cars can be picked up by their owners at the Delivery Centre in Mladá Boleslav."

Anyway I've asked Skoda UK. Will see what they say.

Finally got an answer to this today: No.

Blocked by the retailer, not Skoda weirdly. Something to do with security surrounding the finance, which seems a bit of a lame excuse.

Maybe you have to be in the UK to sign for and receive a car on finance with VWFS UK?

You havent missed much Mlada Boleslav isnt much to write home about, I went a few years ago to the Skoda museum.

I don't really care what the place is like, I just fancied driving my new car home, not to mention saving 3 weeks of waiting for it to hitch a ride on a boat and a lorry after it's built.

I remember my Dad doing this in '89/90

we were living in Germany with the RAF and he got a crazy train/ferry combination all the way up into Sweden to pick up our new 240 estate and drive it back.

More expensive than the delivery cost, but he had a wee holiday out of it.

So if it's an issue when buying on finance, can someone who's buying outright do it ?

It shouldn't be too long now and prob jus in time for a 2016 plate. Mine was waiting in docks about 2 weeks ago and is now sitting at dealerships waiting to be delivered to me

I've been told 21st March at the dealers, in build this week.

Audi and BMW have lovely handover suites, especially BMW World at Munich by the factory, but again not for UK cars. Plenty of Americans stationed in Germany picking up there Beemers when I was there a few years ago.

Might be even less possible after 23rd June..........lol

Most Skoda dealers have handover areas these days, so you should get a bit of a fuss made, car covered up etc....flowers....champagne...

Seems safer for you not take personal pick up, where risko of you getting accident on way home. There's more insurance. Trust me you dont want to get in this situation.

On person I know wen to germany to buy used car. On the way back he stop to help people who had an accident. Another car came and ran into his car. Now he can't import the car before fixing it. Total mess.

IDK how all ended.

Really? I'd be very surprised if this occurs when I go to pick my car up in the next few days. Maybe it's a UK thing?

All Skoda dealers in the UK are moving to this new black, white and green design with an indoor handover area.

My dealer has this new design and layout, not sure if they have the indoor handover area though. I await to be pleasantly surprised!

Expensive. Travel to factory, fuel back to UK, plenty miles on clock from day 1. Enjoy all the niggles driving home..low frequency booming, ears popping, trim rattling, forgotten transit blocks, dodgy Nav. Sounds great lol.

Just playing devil's advocate before I get shot down.

I had all that when I picked up my Audi S6 5.2 V10, it's frankly embarassing standing there while they swoosh a big cover off it.  Well apart from the champagne, I don't think any dealer with any sense is going to hand out alcohol.

When I collected my M135i from BMW it was in a small hard concrete walled room, when it started it up sounded absolutely epic!  I imagine that's why it was where it was... lol

Makes sense for Audi and BMW, but for a Skoda? Bit OTT I would have thought. Anyway, car has finally arrived, so I'll find out in a couple of days. I'm still half expecting it to be outside, in the dark, with rain. ;)

They'll just chuck the keys at you....lol

Well picked up the new car today. Handover was done in the showroom and at the end you get to drive out at the end. Dealer gave a quick walkthrough of the features, didn't take long as I was familiar with most. Little gift bag in the boot that included bottle of wine, chocolates, travel coffee mug, first aid kit and branded A4 pad. Dealer also threw in a skoda cable for the smartlink. Shorter size than the standard Apple one so makes it a little neater when plugged in.

Overall a good experience. Delighted with new car too!

There you go then. You shouldn't have been pessimistic about it.

Enjoy the car.

I'm happy to have been proved wrong!

Better than leaving them on top of a wheel.

Feel quite deprived. All I got was a free keyring.
