TBH 20 or 30 Deg.C ain't a buggy, the DPF regen at about 600 Deg.C and yes there's some insulation but, the sheer amount of air volume passing the exposed DPF underneath your car is MASSIVE. I'm not even sure you'd get it to regen in 4th at 70 mph.

hi, so what's the solution? the DPF just came on my superb II today.....bummer....I'm going to head out after work to drive at high revs for 15/20mins.....hoping that will clear the DPF warning itself? No idea, my first time seeing this:(

Yeah take it out for a good run so it's fully up to temp for 20 mins or so, it should clear itself.

Yeah it's meant to be a very good service - engine de-carbon service. Supposed to thoroughly clean the engine and restore MPG / performance. Seems to get glowing results and was used on Wheeler Dealers!

ok will check it out.....I'm assuming it's cheaper that replacing the EGR and/or DPF. Very annoying these components....thanks for the quick responses:) 

Update on my DPF warning light on my Superb II. Thankfully, after a 10 mins cruise on the motorway, in 4th, 2600rpm, doing about 100kmh, the warning light went out. I hadn't driven the car for a long distance in about a month. It just goes to prove, these diesel engines need a good spin once/twice a month to keep the DPF clean.

Glad to hear your DPF light hasn't been an issue and has gone out now, I kinda think it's the future of diesels. So much **** cleaning the emmissions that the economy therefore, their main reason for purchase is gonna be GONE.

Met a 1.4 ACT Superb owner Tuesday night who got 62.5mpg on 130 mile round trip, the car doesn't have a thousand miles on it yet

Did he drive at 56 MPH everywhere?! I tried a 70-80 mph run in a Leon 150 ACT when I was test driving and struggled to get it past 45!

The 1.4 TSI is a great engine. Pulls nicely to 4000 and feels quick because it's torquey for a petrol. On 10000 a year, if you can stretch to it over the 1.2, I'd say it's a no-brainer. I drove the 1.2 and it's surprisingly able in a car the size of the O3 (and gets rave reviews) but I do a fair amount of suitcase/family lugging on motorways so the 1.4's extra power is very useful. I have read that the 1.2 can struggle a bit under full load.

 

I had to get away from a set of lights quick this evening on a 50 mph limit road (the lad behind me was being reasonably aggressive and I wanted to get over to the inside lane quick to let him past) and I was genuinely surprised how fast the car was. First time I've really pushed it properly. For me, it's a superbly versatile engine for most of the situations you'd find yourself in during everyday driving.

I had the 1.2tsi in my old leon, rarwly seen figures as high as that but on a long FLAT rin I can imagine 60mpg being a reality

My experience with the small turbo engines are they rev keenly and freely, have a nice character and care of clever turbocharging have a relative abundance of torque in the mid range which makes them feel bigger (and likely feel quicker) than their CC and power output might suggest.

Driven carefully they are v frugal too, but if you give them a bit of a clobbering they frankly arent.

I would without doubt buy a 1.4 TSI if I werent doing too many miles a year or alot in the way of people carrying/long legged motorway work....not that its not capable of doing those things because of course it is......just that the 2.0 TDI perhaps does those things a little better and uses less fuel in the process.

Carrying/pulling loads you want as much torque as you can get and of course a 2.0 TDI has plenty more.

That said a 1.4 TSI would give a 1.6 TDI a run for its money as a tow car with more power and the same peak torque output. The 1.4 is undoubtedly more fun to rev out and drive on an interesting piece of road, such is its nicer power curve/character.

In fact the 1.4 TSI is doing better than the 2.0 TDI for carrying load or towing.

The gearbox is designed so that it brings more torque to the wheels in 5th or 6th gear than the 2.0 TDI, and at far lower speed.

The 2.0 TDI 150 is provided with a gearbox having very long transmission ratios, well suited for low consumption.

Unfortunately it jeoperdizes any potential advantage of the high engine torque.

Of course, regarding fuel consumption, your comment is right.

I've got an Octavia 2:0TDI on order. I went with the large diesel as my 25 min commute is mostly dual carriage way. Also, I will be using it for towing every now and then. Sounds like the petrol engines have really come on - and by the sounds of it, anything will put my current PUG to shame!

 

I've gone for a SEL, in black magic, with sun set glass, heated seats, rear LED and a few other bits. Cant wait to get it now. I was told they now come with park assist and adaptive cruise control as standard from the factory now - has everyone else found this to be the case?

Think the dealer is mistaken....they did for a while late MY15.5 and into MY16 but not sure they do now. Front assist does but not ACC or Park Assist. I would recommend you order both if you really want them.

I wasn't sure - so I got the dealer to confirm it in writing that they will both be on the car. If they aren't there on delivery I'll have the paperwork so they can't deny anything. The dealer said they were a 'free upgrade'. Not sure how or why? Anyone else been told this on a new SEL?

Maybe the car is already built.

They may have absorbed the cost of those other extras to get you into that car, rather than waiting for a factory build at approx 12 weeks.

Yes - they said it was already built and at the depo. Picking it up in March

From memory, whilst active regeneration is taking place (essentially you have to guess when this is as you are not told and the gear indicator does not modify it's behaviour) constantly above 50Km/h and 1800rpm.

correction, the manual states: when the dpf light comes on drive at least 70kmh constantly between 1800-2500rpm.
