Continental headlamp adjustment

If you want to make an attempt... use insulation tape.

Noooooo, don't use insulation tape - this WILL ruin your headlight units after a few trips. I have bitter experience of this.

Eurolites probably the best way forward but remove ASAP on return and don't use any solvents to clean headlight surface after removal

Reserecting an ancient topic:

How do I adjust the halogen headlight? What must a 'specialist garage' do that I can't (bearing in mind the lack of specialist garages at Dunkirk docks)?

Nothing you can't do yourself.

Before getting this car I used insulation tape on the last Octavia (no issues with the light lens over 2 years and 5/6 trips) and on a Passat (no issues over 8/9 trips over 3 years).  White spirit won't do the lights any harm, if at all concerned use tar remover which is nearly always "white spirit".  The Octavia before that had the internal adjustment levers so no stickers necessary - I don't think any of the current Skodas have the internal adjustment.

There is less risk of being stopped now as so many cars have internal adjustment but if you are going to be driving at night then it is worth masking up.  I have "forgotten" when we have been over in May before but not been out in the dark on the trip either.  Been waved past vehicle checks a few times when they realised we were foreigners and only stopped once, for a breath test at 0600 - his face was a picture as he offered my wife the machine to blow into before he realised it was a RHD car.

If I need stickers I buy a set for the guide, use the stickers for the first trip and masking tape from then on.  If I get a new car which isn't covered in the guide I get a new set of stickers for the updated guide.  I'm from Yorkshire!

So what will the 'specialist garage' do? As there are no marks on the lense where does the masking go?

Don't think going without beam benders will always work all the time for daylight use, the French police often sit at tunnel exits and nick any cars without light and/or those that are dazzling - anyone on the run from Dijon to Chamonix may get a pull or two before the day's out.

Never seen them waiting there.
