Ive got the hump

I want a 6 disc MP£ cd player with SD car and a button to pop the tailgate from inside the car

My sons 11 plate Octavia estate has both of these.....

Why do you need the 6 disc changer AND the SD card reader??? CD changers are soooooooo 2000. ;)

Surely the SD card removes the need for a CD player. Only time mine gets used is when I update the maps and when the little 'un watches a cartoon DVD when we're waiting for the mrs to come out of the supermarket etc...

Just use the Bluetooth from your phone and play your stuff /audio books or stream Spotify etc onto your system. I've never even put a cd in my 6 player

The 6 disc Bolero is the only model with the SD card slot, the bluetooth is too fiddly for regular use and the aux lead is just annoying

Was told today that swapping a Bolero into the car means a trip to the dealers to have it linked/matched to the ECU, is that right?

a button to pop the tailgate from inside the car

Do you have the electric powered tailgate? If yes, someone with genuine RossTech VCDS can enable the button to open AND close from the inside.

Nope, standard tailgate

dont need it to power up/down, just to release

What happens when you push and hold the middle button on your remote? Doesn't that pop the tail gate? Doesn't that work when the ignition is on aswell?

What about a Columbus instead?

A Columbus has an SD card slot. It also has a dvd drive which plays videos (when stationary) and mp3s on either cd or dvd, it has 18Gb hard drive space for mp3s, and you get sat nav as wel.

As for going to the dealers, no that's not strictly true. It might be that you'll need the security code from them if it's not supploed, or it might beed coding to make all the functions work, but anyone with VCDS can do that.

The later ones get more storage don't they?

Mine came with a 40gb HDD rather than the original 30gb and shows that I have 26gb for music when empty.

Well, yes, but it's more complicated than that really. The minimum is 18Gb from a 30Gb drive, then there's the 40Gb drives which give 26Gb, then the later ones again have 19Gb from a 32Gb SSD drive. Then there's the complications of upgraded firmwares, modified firmwares and suchlike which can make all sorts of different partitions. I just quote 18Gb as it's simpler.

Have you seen the cost of one?

Yep couple of hundred more for a used Columbus compared to a used Bolero 6 disc but it is a lot more unit than the Bolero too. ;)

If you're buying after market just get an Android one from ebay. The Columbus (And most or probably all up to date car radios for that matter) is a very old slow system compared to what you'll get for a lot less on a mobile phone. Getting an Android car radio gives you all the nice features and graphics you get on phones, usually for around €300. Android apps install and run on it, so you can customise it completely.

As for the boot, if it's not powered just hit the unlock button on the driver or passenger's door and the boot will open with the button on the boot. That's as good as most saloon cars and those without powered boots manage.

need that button

Simple solution to all your problems.

Sell the car, find another one that has the options you want.

Experience retrofitting maxidot, multi function steering wheel, navigation into a low spec Octavia taught me the following lesson; It's way cheaper and convenient to save a bit longer and buy a better-specced car, compared to trying to retrofit stuff afterwards.
