you should maybe wait till your abit older for a performance type car..

saying that, when i was 25, i had a 1992 legacy turbo saloon i bought for £1000, it wasnt standard when i got it, usual stuff, full 4" stainless system from turbo back, dumpvalve, chipped, 555 blue, gold speedlines. only kept it till insurance ran out.. but cost me £2000 through my dad to insure, biggest mistake of my life (exept for buying a new vtr, but dont get me started on that.) although i did sell it for £3000 for rallying, so, broke even.

picking the 2.0 on friday.....wooo :)

Cheers

At 17yrs old' date=' how in the hell are you getting insurance on a group 17 car?

I struggled my *** off to get on a group 9, and im 19.. let alone a group 17,

Octy vrs anyday, but i still cant see how you're doing it.[/quote']

shhhhhhh he's gonna do it by insurance fraud

I'd point out that yesterday he did say to you that he was from Bulgaria' date=' in the Dubai motorshow thread. He said it was near Greece, you explained that you were from Cyprus......

[/quote']

He said he was IN Bulgaria, not FROM Bulgaria.

In much the same way I dislike replies in a language that 99% of forum users cant read.

You could have been saying anything to us/me for all we know

If you must now what I said, I basically said 'Good day to you my brother, my name is Milton Bin Laden...I swear I'll box you'.

And that was a joke. And you guys call ME serious.

and L-Y-K......WAY TO GO!

Back on topic before Mr Mil shoots someone........

I may have got the wrong end of the stick here' date=' but are you talking about a 2.0 Fabia [b']ESTATE[/b]!?

If so, you need your head looking! You are 17- you will look like you've borrowed your Grans car! And since you have the 100bhp 1.4 already, there isn't a lot of point getting a 2.0- the extra performance is pretty marginal.

As for an Octy vRS, great car, but really at 17? Again it will look like you've borrowed your dads car, and even in a couple of years you will struggle to insure it.

If you really have £7k to spend (as I read in one of the other posts) I'd get yourself a nice Polo GTI on a Y-plate, get your mum to insure it this year and then use what you don't spend out of the £7k to insure it next year.

Or alternatively keep your car (which sounds as if it is pretty nice for a 17year-olds car) for a couple of year and keep saving. By that time the £7k will have grown, and more cars will be viable as you'll be able to insure them.

No, he's getting a hatchback. Is there a 2.0 estate??? And as far as 15bhp diff is concerned, there over 45Nm of torque difference too, which is quite bit, especially considering the fact that it starts off at 2,400rpm.

Hes gonna be having fun with the vRS drivers he is..

...I swear I'll box you'.

Sorry my mistake

ok am i reading this right:

how the **** is a 2.0 petrol fabia gonna get anywhere near a octavia vrs with 180bhp i just don't see it thats all and remaped well it might as well me a shopping trolly!!!

Couldnt of put it better myself! Get neither' date=' look around. Find a bagrgain - dare I say it? A diesel, save some money and think about something more sporty later...

If you get a vRS at 17 what will you move on to next? Most other cars on the road are dull as dishwater compared so you will have little to look forward to...

Get me?[/quote']

im getting a vRS (fabia not octy) at 18 is that better then??!!!

Nice choice leon... just mod it in the style of the Fabia Paris Concept... oh and for gods sake get some vRS alloys on it

cant work out how to delete post- muppet

ok i know theres a big diference but really how many of you will take the pi$$ out of me for haveing a Metallick stone silver 2.0 elegance combi (fabia) or a 1.8t Octavia vrs....

As far as I'm aware the combi is the estate version.

Sorry' date=' no disrespect as you obviously like your car (and I don't think it's nice to take the **** out of peoples cars) but a 2.0 will not be able to have fun with any vRS be it Fabia or an Octy.

I test drove the 2.0 Golf mkIV (same engine as yours) back to back with the 130bhp TDI Golf mkIV (same engine as the Fabia) when I was buying my car.

The 2.0 is not a [i']bad[/i] engine, but it would not see which way a vRS went, let alone have a hope of playing with it!

hey hey hey!!! its a combi for a start and the fact you all think i want to go raceing cars that are not in the same performance bracket...i could try but fail.

its got loads of extra's! :D silky smooth!!!! test drove it twice today...........aaaaaaaaany way the octy vrs was in poor condition hence the low price the 2.0 is mint around 40k on the clock 02 plate. one lady owner. so woop woop! :D

Doesn't that mean you just drove one after the other...so what did you actually compare other than how fast it *felt*?

The 2.0 is not a bad engine, but it would not see which way a vRS went, let alone have a hope of playing with it!

Hmm...no, the 2.0 would be able to keep with the Fabia vRS...

Rob.

I doubt he'll give Furby vRS drivers much to worry about. Still, a 2-litre petrol is a fairly meaty engine in a car so small, despite the fact it's an ancient engine (look at the latest VAG 2 litre petrols - 150bhp normally aspirated). I wish I could of had such a nippy, new car at that age (I know, not so many years ago, but still . . .).

At the end of the day, it's whatever rocks his boat. I suspect he'll find that 2 litre unit will erode his wallet on fuel a bit more than his current car though.

yes.

fabia vRS has 310Nm of torque. at 1900rpm

Hes gonna be having fun with the vRS drivers he is..

i doubt it.

Ummm....the Golf is a heavier car than is the Fabia, and is also quite a lot slower. I've taken out 2.0 Golfs here easy so I know what I'm talking about.

combi = estate

I know they are both the same, it's called combi here too. I thought he was getting the hatchback, and if he said he was getting the combi, I din't see it.

Yes, and it's only useable to a measly 4,500rpm. The 2.0 takes it all the way to 6,250rpm. Remember, the vRS is only 130bhp standard, which is "ONLY" 15bhp more than the 2.0. Also consider the fact the 2.0 Fabia is much lighter than the vRS Fabia. Remember, I've already said I've smoked the PD100 that is here...EASY....which is only 15bhp less in standard, but STILL has much more torque.

i doubt it.

You always doubt anything I say so this comes as no surprise.

MIL the Fabia vRS is much faster than the 2.0 Fabia trust me

[/quote']

The point I'm making is that I've done the engine comparison (albeit in a different car). If the Golf with engine B is faster than the Golf with engine A, then the Fabia with engine B will also be faster than the Fabia with engine A.

As the Fabia is lighter then yes, it will be faster than a Golf with the same engine.

As for my back to back test, it was mainly about feel, and I understand that diesels can feel faster than they are due to the power delivery, but I also did a more scientific test;

standing start on a roundabout, see how fast you can get by the first flyover bridge.

2.0 Golf = about 85mph

130 TDI Golf = about 100mph

The 2.0 will be nippy in such a small car, but how can it keep up with a car which has 15bhp and 100lb.ft (140Nm) more?

Who cares how high it revs? Al that means is that you've got to rev it to buggery to get your 115bhp, where a vRS will have delivered it's full 130bhp and be well into delivering its 130bhp in the next gear by the time you get there.

I will never be convinced until I actually try. Nor should you. I have 122bhp in my car, not 115bhp either. I've had a go with too many fast hatches too many times to be convinced. I'm thinkin' the way Andy has one of them 'good 'uns', the same luck is with me too.

I wish there was Fabia vRS here in Dubai :(

If you get a vRS at 17 what will you move on to next? Most other cars on the road are dull as dishwater compared so you will have little to look forward to...

PMSL! I think you're a bit naive if you think the vRS is the be-all and end-all of affordable performance motoring ;)

Chris
