Briski Bikers Come Forward! - Part II 'General Banter'

Featured Replies

Just bought insurance for the Tuono.

Over twice the price of the VFR. Urgh!

Ouch! That's the price you pay though for such a power and fast bike! I guess the Tuono is also a lot higher risk than the VFR. How much has the insurance come in at then?

Yeah the VFR is going great thanks mate, I love it. The exhausts really do finish it off! My girlfriend comes out on the back now as well so it's good to get out and go to nice places together.

Admittedly it's pretty awesome one up! Compared to my old bandit, which I loved as well, the VTEC is so much more refined and built to a much better standard.

I know yeah. It's classed as a sports bike, where as the VFR was down as a Tourer, which was good for insurance purposes! It's £470 now :( haha.

Good stuff! yeah the standard cans are pants arent they! Sounds like a sewing machine with those on haha. Thats always nice! Every biker needs a biker chic haha.

Yeh they're good bikes arent they. I'd defo have another at some point.

So been to have a look at the Blade tonight.  The Guy likes his track days and by the look of the tyres the Blade has been his weapon of choice.  He says they are a secondhand set but I suspect they have been ragged rotten on the Blade.  It wasn't bad for a 13 year old bike and he said he would be happy if he got £2500 for it (I should think he would).  There is only one bid at the moment and he was quite happy to end the auction now and let me have it but I think even if I got it for 2200 -  2300 I would be thinking I had paid too much for it.

So I shall see what a Daytona looks like.  There is an 02 plate one at Doncaster and if the worst comes to the worst I can pop across to Chesterfield and have a look at Oli's mate and see what the 07 plate one is like.  I am not in a rush as it isn't like I haven't got a bike.

The story contiinues!

Fair shout mate. 50k on the clock is quite a few aswel if its had a hard life. Would likely be fine if its had many many oil changes though.

Onwards and upwards Chris, theres plenty out there.

Sounds like a good day trip! :)

Tuono might be delayed beyond this weekend. The tyre still hasnt arrived and the courier seems to have lost it, great.

Tested a 2015 VFR800 on Saturday. Very nice, felt light, very responsive. Offered daft money for my VFR 750 with 29000 miles in P/X so on Monday gave it a full service and found an exhaust leak. Fitted new stainless system from Black Widow exhaust, good price and very helpful proprietor gave me loads of advice. See if it feels worth spending £8000 on the newer version this year...

The new one is actually down on power too. They changed the cam profile to make the vtec transition smoother, however they've lost a few BHP's in doing so. They're dyno'ing at 96bhp, yet still advertising them at the same output as the previous model.

Also, they arent as well built as they used to be. Corrosion after just one winter. Not the all year round bike that the 750 or previous 800's were.

Just a few things i picked up, as i was tempted for one at first.

They do look awesome though. I love the headlights and the rear wheel is stunning. That exhaust just needs moving out the way so you can actually see it :D

It did sound nice. However mine does too, just without the VTEC part. The finish is excellent for a 21 year old bike.

Yeah thats when Hondas really were made well isnt it. If only the new batch was the same

My 07 plate finish was nowhere near as good as the 98 R reg I had before and that really was neglected and cleaned only when it had to be.  The Triumph finish is appalling and nothing had been bolted on with greased bolts as everything you try and take off is virtually welded together.

My age is bound to make me one of those old farts that say they don't make things like they used to but in the case of bikes the technology is far better but the finish is skimped on to save pennies.  Bit like my second car a Vauxhall Viva that only had a sun visor for the driver saving no doubt loads of money for the company.  I cannot fathom the thoughts of a Company who want to save money by cutting quality because for those of us who keep our bikes for a while we will notice and then maybe decide to go somewhere else for a better standard of finish.  Mind you from what I understand even BMW quality is way below what it used to be for the finish.

I think that's a fair summary of most bikes now Chris. The detail on bmws is impressive but the finish could be a whole lot better.

There isn't one bike that would stand up to my year round riding even with acf50 and regular cleaning they are simply not designed that way.

Its an awful lot of money to pay for this but its paying for the tech that is simply incredible.

Fact of life unfortunately.

My Dad had a 1995 VFR 750 and it was a fantastic bike, I sold it for him about 3-4 weeks ago. If we had the space I would love to have kept it and had some fun on a track maybe.

Can't go wrong with them! I'm not massively keen on the new VFR's actually. Have you tried a VTEC one? There's loads about and if you look hard enough there's some good deals to be had.

I agree With you both.

I think now things are almost made disposable. Its a finance culture we live in now, so things are kept 2-3 years n taken back. The build quality seems to just serve those 3 years sometimes haha.

Bmws arent what they used to be, no. Dad used to ride his all year round then just wash it off now n again n itd come up like new. He wont take his 12 plate GSA out in salt at all though, because he knows it wont keep its finish long

The chromium fittings on my Triumph Sprint GT were corroded after 6 months and it was brand new.  OK I will ride all year round and if it gets wet and mucky it often stays mucky for some time but even then once it is cleaned I would expect the chrome to come up clean.  It is like the allen key heads on the bolts.  They are made of cheese and will not come undone because they cannot stand the use of the force required after they have welded themselves to the threads.

Sounds a ballache.

But then. Knowing what you know now, if you were in the position to buy new again, would you buy a TEX?

I tested a 2015 VFR800 last Saturday and it was impressive with a nice howl, the sales guy said the VTEC had been toned-down in comparison with earlier VTEC VFR. I finished fitting a new exhaust to my '95 VFR yesterday and serviced it, so I will ride it around for a bit. I like its fairing shape and styling. It's a good starter bike, having passed my DAS course last August. Anybody have any experience on GSX 1250 FA? They appear big and fairly cheap with panniers etc.

I didn't buy the TEX new.  It had 7000 on it when I got it and it wasn't that old.  It is on a 63 plate and I bought it last September so he had put some miles on it fairly quickly.  It is the daft things like the fork protectors that are held on with 4 allen bolts and I had to chop one off to get them off and then saw that the forks were cruddy and getting pitted because they had not been cleaned properly (if at all) since new maybe.  If you cannot get things like that off for routine cleaning it is  bad job.

So if I were to buy new again was the question?  Well the answer is I wouldn't as I lost a fortune on the Sprint because I changed it in the first year.  Next time I would buy off some muppet like me who changes his mind before the bike gets any crud on it and avoid the worst of the depreciation.

Barely run in then. Yeah thats the best plan really. Some right bargains to be had on the used market, especially with bikes, which mostly get used as a toy anyway. I wouldnt buy new unless its going to be a keeper and run into the ground.

Buy a new Tuono V4R chris, park it up n sell it in about 2 years. Ill buy it off you then for about half what you bought it for ;) ahaha.

Looks like it might be next week before i pick up the big T.

Waiting for the tyre really. It should of been here last wednesday but the couriers lost it. They found it again today but cant promise itll be there tomorrow. Most likely Monday morning.

Useless ******s.

The guy im buying it off seems genuinely sound anyway. Doing what he can, keeps apologising about the time its taking. It's completely out of his hands though haha.

Anyway. Sundays given really good weather, so i hope you're all having fun out on your bikes! haha

Whhhhat ? Bet you are like a cat on a hot tin roof mate ? Sounds like he's being good about it.

Loads of bikes in the peaks today. Grrrr.
