Briski Bikers Come Forward! - Part II 'General Banter'

Featured Replies

Chipping in here on this, my RT has got some corrosion issues, paint defects and water ingress.

BMW have authorised..........

New engine

New rear wheel

New final drive

New centre stand

New clocks

Lots of hoops to jump through to get here, but I can't argue with that.

Thats fantastic. What more could you ask for? haa. GREAT!

Well I suppose you could ask for it to be right in the first place but credit for sorting it.  Still hassle that you should not have had though.

Very true.

But i think its the way things are now really. I'm not even that old.. and things aren't made as they were haha.

This is true, but I'm really picky and the areas of corrosion are not big at all but they should not be there on a £15k bike. So I'm happy that it's all working out.

Here's an example of the problems, not huge but should not be there, glad it's a BMW as customer service still means something [emoji3]

You're right to be picky though.

Once its under the paints like that.. when does it stop? It'll just keep getting worse and worse

What he said!  Once it starts it just creeps and creeps and then you have a real problem.  Is there any reason for it going there?  Is it stone chipped or does it get caught with anything?  Like the footpeg shields on the TEX are constantly rubbed by my boots so obviously get worn and that means that there isn't really a way round it but part of the frame under the rear seat has the same as yours and is out of the way so I can only assume it has been stone chipped.

Riding in all weathers doesn't help but as we have discussed on here before they are for riding not polishing.

Sadly a story told most if not every day in the UK.  All we can do personally is ensure that we are not the subject of such a story each and every day we go out by looking after our own destiny.  If you have done any higher level training then practice it and use it all the time and if you haven't then seriously look at doing some.

I know our local bike IAM group (if not Nationally) are offering an hour assessment free to anyone who wants it.  Also quite a few Police Forces offer a Ride Safe course.  None of us are perfect and I am the first to admit that about my own riding. I 'try' to ride the best I can every time I go out for my own survival and even with all the training I received I still find myself tut tutting in my helmet.  Thing is to recognise your own mistakes and not blame others and then rectify them.

Not preaching just hoping we all have a good summer out there.

Well said that man.

I do the Bike Safe every five to six years if for nothing else to remind me of what bad habits have crept into my riding and to update myself on new rules of the road and just as importantly take advice from far better riders than me.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!

Yesterday, l was on Skegness sea front with my Wife when we saw a man and his wife having a huge argument in front of loads of kids. Suddenly, the woman smacked the chap in the head and it all kicked off. There was a massive brawl and someone called the Police. This poor officer turned up on his own and ended up drawing his baton to defend himself. Unfortunately, the man snatched the baton from the officer, assaulted him with it and then assaulted his wife!

Then, out of nowhere, a crododile crept up and stole all the sausages!

Just had an afternoons assessment ride with an IAM observer to see if suitable for doing my Advanced test. Learned a lot in just one afternoon and now intend to proceed with gaining my Advanced Motorcycle test. Did my car one a year ago and passed and as my local group are offering a discount it's a no brainer for me.

Good to hear fella, more training is a good thing.

Did my bike and car through the IAM many moons ago. Ought to have another assessment really.

It's all too easy to become complacent.

Not sure if anybody is local enough for this meet and ride out on Sunday 8th May.

It's an annual event which supports the Shropshire Air Ambulance charity. Meet in Shrewsbury and ride to RAF Cosford where there is James Toselands band playing, lots of stands and bike displays too. Last year was very good, the ride was led by Richard Hammond and Carl Foggy! If you're going, let me know and I'll say hello.

I went a couple of years ago (In the car as I took the family) and it was a good day out.

We did our charity ride for Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance a couple of weeks ago.  First one here and they raised just short of £2000.  Not bad for a first event I suppose but way off the scale of this one.  I think it is great that riders are willing to become involved and contribute to the upkeep but also sad that they have to when it should be funded by Central Government and not rely on charity.

Looks like a great event though Fabia and I hope you enjoy it.  Fingers crossed for the weather to co-operate as well.

Father arrived home today. Set off this morning in 31c heat... got home at about 3pm and it was 1c and snowing here! Piles of grit everywhere.

It's not even funny. I thought winter was supposed to be over?

Dont mate. Riding the street this week means no heated grips or jacket. Properly cold.

Ah we can man up to that though? ;)

It's the salt on the bike that i struggle with haha. I actually couldn't do it to the T.

Lol and remind me where you were Sunday ?!!! Lol

Yeah it'll crucify the t. Be a pile of table salt in no time.

Eh if i woulda been there if i could mate. Im not arsed about getting cold pinkys, i've done enough of that haha. Unfortunately running SWMBO's belongings back from Sheffield had to come first. I dont mind, she'd do anythin to help anyone. :D

It's the bikes i feel for. I can warm up, but running my bikes in salt shows irreversible effects, and im proper OCD! :D

Yeah there wouldnt be anythin left! so well made, but so badly made at the same time when the salt hits haha.

Wuss!  :D :p

I think this weather is what we were supposed to have last weekend which thankfully we didn't.  It now looks like it may clear up for next weekend by which time I may have finished all of my jobs in the garden for the moment.  That being the case it is time to fill up the Daytona and get back out there.

You could use the old Police man's trick Dave and hang a hot water bottle down the front of your jacket.  Used to keep us warm on the coldest of nights walking the beat.  That was before the days that I was actually allowed to drive a Panda car!  Obviously years before any of you lot were even a twinkle in someone's eye. :notme:

A mate was just moaning about how he cant move properly today after doing 200 miles on his Fireblade yesterday. Reckons his wrists and back are aching like **** n he couldnt ever do it again. Doesn't believe anyone could ever really go anywhere on them.

So i've sent him a few links to Nick Sanders achievements.

which is of course... Around the world, 19,930 miles in 31 days 20 hours, on an R1!

He doesnt seem to be able to get his head around that.

I think he needs to man up slightly... :D
