  • With 22 pages of thread to read through, I must confess I haven’t bothered BUT have actually now had a test drive of a Model 3 and thought I’d share the impressions here.   As a background,

  • I got quite angry about the luxury car tax thing yesterday morning and cancelled. If they can bring a version in under that 40k threshold I might jump back in. Keeping an eye on the VW ID too.

I would have thought they wouldn't have a flat nose like the pic - bad or costly aero impact?

There are pics of the interior Keith. It's a 5 seater. No dashboard as such, just a landscape tablet style screen in the middle of the dash with speed etc etc on it. Looks very sparse...but it's the future haha

I think the front "grill" (or lack of) looks a little weird. Otherwise I'd agree

I thought that was a preview mock up, didn't realise that was really it.

+180000 pre-orders this morning      edit 198000 as of 6pm

Pre orders now at 276,000.

Blimey!! Just a few!

At that amount........really when will you actually get you car? Deliveries are not taking place until the end of next year, so you're talking 2018.

And people moaned on here about the 6+month wait for a Yeti!! :P

That huge 15" screen and the way its placed is by far the funniest thing I've ever seen on a car. I guess the vision was that you are able to work on your laptop while the car drives itself for you hence a need to stick on a full sized laptop on top of the dashboard? God this looks so silly. And the whole story about this mind-blowing acceleration, unless you are drag racing on traffic lights performance drops hugely once the car is doing 60+ mph, so on the highway, probably as fast as a 150ps turbocharged motor, nothing special here.

Don't get me wrong I do like the idea of fully electric cars and I believe is the way to go for the majority of cars around the world that are just commuters or shopping trolleys, absolutely. But in the current form/implementation it has nothing to do with a sports car clearly.

No the screen doesn't annoy me or my passengers at all, right.

Also what's with the people in the video going: "Wooow.." ? This car supposedly does 0-60 in 6", has no-one of them ever been to a car that does sub 6 0-60 times before?? Oh yeah, it's the lack of engine noise that does the trick  :x

Could be 4yr for delivery now apparently. IF they meet production targets.

Will people be allowed to sell their place in the queue?(like Morgan did years ago.)

The only car I've ever had that did 0-60 in less than 6 seconds was an Alpina V8.I used to do it regularly to hear that lovely V8 sound.

I suspect that most Tesla owners will be doing 0-60 in about 20 seconds to brag about how many miles they've covered on 1 Charge. :'(

Not my cup of tea but a step up from the Leaf Ect. Hope they do not attempt to rush production and cause build quality issues. I get the feeling it is appealing to the i generation and will be another must have consumer product.

No, the one in the video will be sub 5 - it's dual motor. The base spec RWD one is sub 6.

  • 1 year later...

Think it needs some black wrap where the front grill would normally be... looks a bit odd IMO, other than that it looks promising.... enough to look further into it.

  • 3 months later...

Anyone expecting a delivery order this year?

No. I have a very early reservation number but not expecting it to arrive before 2019 now.

When will international deliveries begin?
Every country has its own set of rules and regulations, which means that we effectively must build a different car for different markets. This means international Model 3 deliveries will begin in late 2018, contingent upon regulatory approvals, starting with left-hand drive markets, followed by right-hand drive markets in 2019. We wish we could do all this faster and get you your Model 3 right away. No action is required from international reservation holders now. We will contact you closer to the start of production for your country.

Thanks for that update Nick - good luck with yours.......

Dave

2019/20 might be a good year to pick up a used Model S

Was looking the other day and they're quite pricey but being sold with a 4yr warranty

Manufacturers  starting to move more rapidly now, my guess is that by 2018/19 there will be some real competition  and more competitive options around by then.

So wait and see is the standpoint for me.

I fully intend to buy one, but as a pre-owned. So probably have to wait until 2022 to get mine. There are no other EV manufacturer can catch Tesla until at least 2030, supercharger network and OTA whole car firmware updates are more than enough reason to buy a Tesla.

Then there's the autopilot hardware, as second hand car buyer, built-in hardware means I can buy any Model 3 and upgrade myself. So I will definitely be driving (or be autonomously driven) my Model 3 within 6 years time, just a question of how soon can I find one.

Think you are under estimating the speed of change. However, best of luck in six years time.

Love it.

The Management meeting must of been interesting in which ever language it was held in, probably German.

'When speaking about Skoda EV's to journalists never mention 'Fabia' if you say 'Fabia' people will think 'Old People'.

'Talk about BHP, powerful / high BHP even though it is 'Torque' that matters.'

Vorsprung Durch Technik.

whatever Skoda do it will always be governed   by;  1- make a profit:  2-don't tread on the lord and masters (Audi/Vw) feet;     it's easy to do when you make good cars at sensible prices
