Tesla Model 3 pre-ordering

Featured Replies

I'm planning to nip over to Tesla in Manchester on the 31st and put a deposit down on a Model 3.

Anybody else doing it?

  • With 22 pages of thread to read through, I must confess I haven’t bothered BUT have actually now had a test drive of a Model 3 and thought I’d share the impressions here.   As a background,

  • I got quite angry about the luxury car tax thing yesterday morning and cancelled. If they can bring a version in under that 40k threshold I might jump back in. Keeping an eye on the VW ID too.

What information have you got on it so far? Not much out there yet from what I can see, rumours have it 200 mile range, and around the $35k (£24/25k) before any government incentives.

Watching with great interest!

As above also watching with interest to see how it plays out from a work bias.

Scant information so far. But how bad can it be right? They have to make it a success.

I have a tesla test drive on the 8th April, gonna ask all about it :)

Ordering Update:

We’re excited to share more details about our Model 3 unveil plans. We’ll be live streaming the event on Tesla.com beginning at 8.30pm PDT on March 31. Tune in to join in the experience. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on.

Reservations for Model 3 begin on March 31st worldwide. There are two ways to make a reservation. The first, which will allow you to get a better spot in the queue, is to visit your local Tesla store when it opens on March 31st. Second is to make a reservation online at Tesla.com
when the live unveil starts at 8:30pm PDT.

Reservation amounts in each currency can be found here. (£1000)

In order to be as fair as possible, there will be a different queue for reservations in each region. And as a thank you to our current owners, existing customers will get priority in each region (one priority reservation for each Tesla they own). For those who aren’t Tesla owners yet, this means the fastest way to buy a Model 3 is to buy a Model S or Model X.

Model 3 production is scheduled to begin in late 2017. When production begins, we will begin deliveries in North America starting on the West Coast, moving east. As we continue to ramp production, we will begin deliveries in Europe, APAC and right-hand drive markets.

Looks like it won't be until early 2018 before they arrive in Blighty then?

That might be about when I'm looking to change, though I'd expect the uk price to start at £30k at least.

Supposed to be on a par with a 3 series so that would be about right.

Might even take a look myself. It's a pretty car.

Worse case, sell your slot like many do on luxo lines for a small profit :).

Did it at lunch time. In the Leeds shop that opened last week. All very straight forward.

not a contract (as such)  and not transferable

Hopefully there's no 'panel gap' problems with this car Nick!

Launch in 3:30am right?

Will have to have a gander in the morning.

There are also other people who want to stump up a deposit on an unseen car. :o

Hopefully it's as good as the hype.

They gave a dollar figure but what about an actual UK price as we all know the dollar figure never converts to the £ price. Looks like a nice looking car from what I can see.

Wee bit on El Reg about the launch.

Potential for a game changer with this one? Usable mileage. Within reach of 3 series buyers. Charging points are starting to appear.

It does have quite a good look to it.

BBC reckon it will be around £24k, with a 215 mile range.

Very, very tempted. I am not entirely convinced about the availability of recharging points. Still, a quite wonderful concept.

I've read some more and I like it. Let's see what the base car spec looks like.

If it is around £24k in the UK (which I doubt) it would be a good commuting vehicle for me.  Depends on the depreciation as that seems to be the biggest running cost in some electric cars.

Might even take a look myself. It's a pretty car.

I think the front "grill" (or lack of) looks a little weird. Otherwise I'd agree

I hope they add inductive charging as the position of the charging socket could be a deal breaker for me. After all, it's a lot easier to wire that up than it is to alter the parking position in the garage.

I like it...but only 6 secs to 60  :'( My 3.6 Superb estate is a tad quicker  :p  :D

Joking aside, if they can do the Model3 for circa £25k they will have a success on their hands. I love the S and X versions....but there is no petrol engine in it  :rain: (I know, I know...defeats the object etc.)

Its still got no noise or flames spitting out the exhaust on overrun BUT for tootling around between work and home it could be just the ticket for many. It looks cool too.
