    For me it seems a bit of a grey area re. the standard upholstery of a 2016 Octavia SE L.

I appreciate the alcantara bit.

100% man made but I like it very much, think it's excellent.

It's the rest of the upholstery, the 'leather look' stuff.

I think the brochure states something about 'part leather'?

Is this leather?

I don't think it is.

Certainly doesn't smell of leather.

I'm not bothered either way, but would appreciate it if someone could shed some light on it for me.

In my 2016MY Scout with Alcantara and Leather, the bits of leather on the bits of the seat that you sit on are real leather, the seat backs and sides are man made leather.

It's definitely not more hard-wearing unfortunately

It's real leather with some fake bits. Not sure where the line is drawn but I'd wager the faces of the seats are the real deal

I believe it's PU polyurethane on a synthetic cloth Base. This type of fabric is not as good as leather and can't be repaired as easily, or reconditioned. Not sure about the seat bolsters though. I get the impression real and fake are used on different panels of the seats. I believe it's weight benefits is the motivation for doing it, not cost as you would expect.

Yeah the front facings are definitely real leather, and everything else is imitation. They can't advertise it as being leather / alcantara if it was fake. They actually stipulate in the full leather option that some imitation leather is used.

Yes, with the full leather option, any part being in contact with the body, the seat, backrest and head support are leather.
