Vw up or citigo?

Hi,now im just going to get straight to the point with this,as ive looked at all the specifications, reviews etc for the citigo and vw up!.

I like the vw up and skoda citigo, their both very fun little city cars, but im torn on the looks and price, since ive seen for a base model vw up you can get a skoda citigo monte carlo thats 3,4 years old, which is very good for the money.

With all the added extras you receive  with it (black alloys, tinted windows, nice interior  and a low insurance group, which is want you want for a first car.)

And i know there the same exact car underneath, but i dont know which to go for.(and i like them equally btw)

(i do the like the one with a 1.8 audi quattro engine in though, which would look and go great in a monte carlo version  :D )

Personally (and being on a Skoda forum) I would say go for the Citigo! I don't think the UP! Is worth the extra.

If the Citigo's you are looking at are 3years old then you will be looking at the Sports rather than the Montes as the Montes only came out last year. The Sport is very very close spec and look to the Monte [emoji41] I love mine [emoji38][emoji38]

If i did get an up i would just be paying for the badge, since they are pretty much the same car,but the monte carlo looks lovely, and i love the grill on the front as well,as well as the little things here and there, like the lowerd sport suspension i might just get a Monte carlo.(when i can afford one any way.)

(i wish i could just put an Audi engine in though, for a bit more grunt  )

Skoda dealers have a better reputation than VW dealers (in most cases)!

Yes, but the difference between them appears to be decreasing quite rapidly.

So is that Skoda getting worse or VW getting better??

Dave.

Skoda deteriorating and falling into the big is beautiful trap. Loads of "up selling". There is an interesting dealership - manufacturer survey carried out annually showing particularly poor relations between both manufacturers (volkswagen and Skoda) and their dealerships. As I recall both are at the bottom end of the league table.

We have 2 Citigos and I think you can't go wrong with a Citigo or an Up! for your first car. As you say, Citigolover, the insurance is cheap and I think What Car just indicated that the Citigo was the most economical small car in real-world driving. I think the Citigo is the only small car with a 5 star safety rating and most people agree that it is fun to drive. If you are buying second hand, you should just see what is available in your budget and buy the nicest Citigo, Up! or Mii you can find. We have good service from our local dealers and Skoda dealers were 4th in the Driver Power customer survey 2014 (7th in 2015) but you may be better finding an independent VAG (Volkswagen Group) specialist, if you buy a car more than 3 years old. Remember though, you may be able to pick up a pre-registered 'new' car for £7.5k from a dealer at the right time of year (January, March, September) and Motorpoint often have cheap nearly-new cars. Good luck, Andy.

The citigo is very good value for money (please dont read as cheap) and in reality a painless ownership proposition.

The main difference in the UP! is that VW have furnished it with better visual in terms of quality appearance. The wheel options on the UP! as an example are much greater and look more in keeping with appearance. I'm sorry although the monte carlo is a nice car, to some it looks slightly boy racer, where as the UP! sport has more slant towards the GTi (except for engine)

I would love to see someone put the UP! rear glass tailgate on the citigo

Moving forward the UP! on its recent geneva facelift for summer this year has raised the bar at appealing to more buyers, i hated the first gen UP! front bumpers as they were not a spot on the citigo, but the new UP! looks sharp, and with the LED lights even more visual quality appearance.

I'm sure many are hoping that the citigo will be given the 1.0TSi engine, but i believe there is still no confirmation, but the UP! is confirmed.

Have you asked this on any up! forums? You may find different opinions there. But seriously, you did make your mind before you asked, didn't you.

I haven't no,but the answer would be to get an up!.And as cool as they are, there too expensive to buy.as well as the fact that im not as keen on the looks.(looks a bit like the joker with the big grin. But just my opinion   :D ) And ive looked and driven the skoda citigo. And i just prefer it more. (and i also love the look of the monte carlo with the boy racer-ish looks, reminds me of the classic mini a bit) I just wanted some views of some other people before i made my decision. (still a while until i can drive anyway)

i also really like this forum.

I'll add another option into your list! Have a look at the Mii Sport. My wife had test drives in all the UP! variants and decided she liked the Mii best. % finance as well.

I've seen an up! tailgate on ebay for about £100, i am very tempted to be honest, i'm pretty sure the vw has a different shade to my car so will need paiting, also need to debadge the new tailgate, which i'm sure wont be a problem.  Also need to make sure the bumper is the same (well the upper bit anyway).
