FL xenon retrofit

5mo907357c is for xenon with afs.... same module as mine! retrofited from xenon without afs from non facelift.

Are the xenon headlamps fitted to the vrs and the l&k different? I believe the vrs has a dummy sidelight bulb but will it work on an elegance if you fit the bulb and holder?

where did you source the loom from for the sensors and lamps?

  • Author

They use the same headlights.

If you take a vRS headlight (xenon or halogen) it'll just work on a non-vRS and the sidelight bulb should work. The reason it doesn't on a vRS is there is no wiring between the headlight and the BCM :)

The loom came from aliexpress and was sold for a MK6 so it only had one level sensor connector/wire. The seller was happy to add a second for a few pounds and I tweaked it to match the Octavia wiring diagram myself.

That looks to be about half the wiring needed. Based on the plugs in the picture, that'll connect the two level sensors to the AFS master, I can't see anything for the AFS slaves on each headlight or the 10 <-> 14 pin adaptors. It's not clear to me where the crimps with the blue seals are for so they might be for the 14 pin headlight connectors.

If I remember, it was something like this but with an extra level sensor connected thrown in: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/BODENLA-Auto-Leveling-Range-LED-Headlight-Cornering-AFS-Wire-For-VW-Golf-VI-6-GTI-Xenon/32868248928.html

Pretty sure the level sensors came from aliexpress too :)

Has anyone done this with a single level sensor? I assume it will still be legal and effective.

To be road legal it needs to meet various ECE requirements and then the system as a whole will gain approval. If you fit something that doesn't match the original system then it won't have that approval and therefore won't be road legal.

As I mentioned previously, if Skoda thought it would be effective with just a rear sensor, they would have only fitted a rear sensor as per some golfs.

I'm pretty sure the front sensor is only ~£30 brand new and needs three wires. It's really not a hard or expensive part of the retrofit...

It’s modifying the loom to splice in the additional level sensor that concerns me. I was thinking as plug and play as possible would be easier.

  • Author

No need to splice front sensor.

It's literally three wires between the sensor and the AFS module. The connectors on the AFS module will be empty so assuming the wiring has the right crimps and length, they will just need plugging it :)

They look about right at least compare to the images I posted.

I can't remember the exact part numbers I used unfortunately.

Breaker says the part numbers are 1T0907503D and 1T0907503B

Edit

Is the part number for the instrument dimmer 1Z0941333A ?

Got the AFS module, slowly gathering the parts I will need.

  • Author

Looking on ebay that seems to be correct for the dimmer :)

aliexpress won’t sell the loom with an additional level sensor cable. Looks like I will have to buy two sets of cables as I can’t find that cable on its own.

That's annoying. It'll probably cheaper to buy the connector and three bits of wire.

The connector part number is 4B0 973 712 and there are plenty on eBay for ~£5 including crimps/seals. If you haven't got a crimp tool, I'm sure a local garage can help as it's only a five minute job. If needed, I can drop the crimps for the other end (AFS master) in the post if you drop me a PM.

Just checked the level sensor part numbers:

- 1K0 941 274 C front level sensor

- 1K0 941 273 N rear level sensor (FWD)

- 1K0 941 273 M rear level sensor (AWD/4x4)

I don't think they've been superseded but I imagine there are other compatible part numbers.

What size are the crimps?

Erm, small?

Part numbers for crimps compatible with the AFS master include:

- 000 979 009 E

- 000 979 009 EA

- 000 979 164 E

They quite often come with wires attached but I'm pretty sure you can order them without.

Langers2k, can u, by any chance, provide us with the part no needed for this retrofit? I'm now starting to gather the parts, starting with the bumper, as i don't have washers for the headlights, and i would be gratefull as to know what parts to search. Thanks

My car had headlight washers from factory so I never had to retrofit that side of things. That being said, Ed did retrofit the washers and cut holes in his existing bumper rather than replace is, there is a write up here:

As for the part numbers I think most are mentioned in this thread, the only obvious ones that are missing are the headlights which were 1Z2941017Q and 1Z2941018Q. However, there are numerous other xenon headlight part numbers that should also work :)

Hi all,

hope you’re doing ok. Could someone tell me where the afs module goes? Is it one of the units that attaches to the headlight or is it within the cabin somewhere? Also is the bcm located near/behind the head unit display?

Also, I’m assuming you can’t just go to a Skoda and ask them to retrofit xenons to a used car? Assuming that’s out of the question either because of price or they just don’t offer that kind of thing ...??

If you have a mk2, the AFS master control unit is behind the climate control panel. Each headlamp unit has an AFS slave control unit attached to the back of it. The slaves are connected to the master by CAN bus and the master is connected to the CAN gateway by CAN bus.

The CAN gateway is buried down behind the steering wheel, if you have small hands and long arms you can get to it from the bottom. I think the official route to it is from the engine bay, but it is a fair bit of work.

You probably could get Skoda to retrofit the xenon headlights if you paid them enough money. But I expect it will cost almost as much as a decent second hand mk2 which already has xenons...the headlamp units are about £600 each new without any bulbs, then there's a fair bit of labour too. A few people on this board (myself included) have done the retrofit. If you're fairly mechanically and technically minded, you can probably do it.

I’ve just realised this whole thread is in mk2 and I actually have a mk3 - urgh!

but thank you for your thorough answer

No problem, I can't imagine the retrofit on a mk3 is too much different, although control units may be located in different places. It's a fairly involved conversion, it took me a whole day to do it and I was pretty well prepared.
