FL xenon retrofit

Recommended Posts

Well done. Seems to be on a lot of Octy owners wish list.

There are some Xenon Headlight units on ebay added today. I think they were about £150 each though! Item number 401086057768 and 401086058265

How do you find out if a bcm supports xenons?

From what I understand it's down to the BCM part number.

If it starts with 1K0 937 087 then I'm pretty sure it supports xenons.

If it has 084, 085, 086 instead of 087 then it'll need upgrading.

Is that self leveling make that hid kit legal? The head lights are certificated for h7 bulb up 2000lumens and 4000kelvis and reflector is not designed for it as well and finally there is no head light washers.

In my opinion it is still ilegal.

You might want to double check my original post ;)

As you mention, ECE regs require self-levelling and headlight washers for light sources over 2000lm to make them road-legal.

- The FL elegance has headlight washers as standard.

- I've added the levelling system (as per the factory wiring diagram, using the same sensors, modules and coding).

- I've replaced the headlights with original xenon units.

They are unmodified genuine headlights - they take a D1S bulb, have a reflector designed for xenons and are E-marked as such. Now I've finished the retrofit, it completely matches any factory fitted xenon kit. All parts used (loom aside) are both genuine and type approved for xenon lighting on this car.

In my opinion it is still ilegal.

It is legal, I've met all ECE requirements just as a factory kit would. If you think I've missed something please let me know :)

100% legal!

Nice retrofit. Price isn't too bad I don't think especially with a set of decent new bulbs too.

And the benefits are worth the cost. More light output and not having to remove the headlights and fiddle with levers to adjust for driving abroad (something which we do at least once or twice a year).

Now I know how to convert my headlights for European driving it's only two minutes a side

  • 7 months later...

From what I understand, it should also be possible to enable AFSII as the module is running SW:0148. This will change the 'lighting cone' depending on speed and conditions rather than just levelling and bending. I'll add the coding later if I figure it out...

Hi Langers2k,

I have coded my retrofitted Xenons to 1441884 - That gives me "Citylights" and "Motorway Lights"

In city lights, the left cone (I live I europe) turn all the way out to the left in speed between 15ish-40km/h and all of the road is illuminated.

I have tried to make a video of it here

https://youtu.be/Wo6mIZ9nxyQ

I motorway light, the length of the light increases along with speed

Can you tell me how you have coded your bcm?

Since I have retrofittet my xenon, I have lost the DRL's next to the fog lights!

Nice to see another factory style xenon retrofit :)

Did you get that code from Dmitriy?

I think I know how you lost the DRL, can you tell me what changes you made to the BCM? Even better would be an autoscan from VCDS if you have one!

I found a scan, not that old

Perfect, try changing byte 14 in "Address 09: Cent. Elect" from 8B to 91. You might need to do this manually as there won't be a checkbox for byte 14, bit 4.

Currently the car is coded to use pins C48/C49 to control the bi-xenon shutters, the Octavia hasn't got bi-xenon and instead uses these pins for the DRL :)

langers2k, how can I ever thank you?

It worked like a charm, I am one happy camper, thank you!

Are you able to get the rearlight running with the front DRL's also?

Yup, that's simple enough as have it turned on but unfortunately VCDS can't do it.

You'll need access to VAS-PC or ODIS-s, both should have guided functions to enable it. Otherwise you can also use VCP or ODIS-e to directly edit the BCM EEPROM to change the light configuration.

... if people are interested I can add a schematic for the loom I ended up fitting but it's basically taken from the factory wiring diagram. I didn't fit the wire shown on the WD between T26e/8 and T52c/52 as other cars with the same AFS controller didn't seem to have it, there are no errors shown and everything works as expected so I've no idea what it's purpose is! I also have an extra wire to each headlight so if I decide to go for a custom bi-xenon set up later I'll be able to control the shutter properly.

I am interested...thx

Hello Langers2k!

I am in the process of retrofitting OEM xenon headlights to a Skoda Octavia 2 facelift and i'm in the process of sourcing components.

What AFS module did you use? And why did you mount two leveling sensors. I know that after 2008, 5M0 907 357 C AFS modules use only one leveling sensor.

Thank you!

@trflorin - Yes I used a 5M0 907 357 C and it can use either one or two levelling sensors depending on coding.

I fitted both as I wanted it to match factory fitted xenons. If Skoda/VAG thought it could level properly without a front sensor, they wouldn't have fitted one like on some Golf's :)
