What have you upset?

I'm not saying by any means that diesels aren't as quick as the same power petrol and bmw/audi sure do know how to make a diesel but as the vrs is concerned the tsi is quite a lot faster than the diesel. Having said that my petrol vrs is no quicker off the line than a 1.0 fiesta as the grip on these things are shocking!

I think at some point that "line" is going to quickly run out of puff on the 1.0 Fiesta if you are thinking beyond town speeds.....very quickly in fact if you are talking about up to and past 60 lol

Haha yep about 3 meters, but if it's anything apart from grippy bone dry tarmac then my tsi does not do fast off the line! I think the quoted 6.6 seconds means time till the car actually moves not 0-60 haha!

God quite a response for and against diesel power. I have to agree though about real world driving and statistics in a magazine. I can remember in work we used to have petrol t5 valves, then changed to diesel d5. They got a really poor response from drivers, so much so volvo sent one of there top guys to see what was wrong.

I took him out, onto the motorway was let him instruct on gear changes, making beat usage he said. I will always remember him saying, into fourth and feel that power now!!. I had to laugh

After explaining what we need, the immediate power for, and what the d5 lacked, his reply was simply, but it's diesel you will never have that.

But, we then bought 530 diesel bmws and you could see the difference straight away.

All said would I have a diesel instead of petrol? No, not yet... I would miss the engine note. Will I have one in the future? Yes, if they sort the emissions out!!

Thanks for the comments about how to spot which. I will certainly look for them now.

The latest gen 2.0 TDI's are quite a departure fron the EA189's.

My 150 TDI Octavia is as fast as my Mk2 vRS 170 CR, partly down to weight reduction but also far better mid range delivery.

The 184 absolutely wipes the floor with the old 170...not laugh out loud faster by comparison but it delivers its horses in a much better even spread and doesnr really get breathless to around 4.5k rpm.

I'd prefer a TSI, I think its the better car outright (in the same way a GTI is arguably better than a D)....but stock v stock theres not loads in it and driven with little care a 184 TDI will still return 40+ mpg whereas a TSI will get nothing like. I know after having a Fabia vRS that never bettered 32mpg long term in my hands that I wouldnt get on with the TSI's thirst for unleaded....a 3-400hp car maybe but not a 220hp everyday hatch. But were all different and we all make our choices.....to be fair I didnt make my choice my company did haha

I can say for BMWs that the turbo six petrols do better the diesels, far more responsive and make a way way better noise.

My late father had an E92 335d M Sport when they were first launched...it replaced an E46 M3 Coupe and it was lovely....and staggeringly fast for a big diesel of its generation.....but it was effective rather than exciting.

My old man kept it a while as it was such a good day to day car but he traded it for a 135i Coupe and that was laugh out loud by comparison. Later he got an F21 M135i and that was better still.

I still think as a daily drive though a 335d X Drive takes a massive amount of beating and is something I aspire to own/run at some stage should the oportunity arise.

If your behind one its easy, just look for the second back box on the right hand side as you look at it hanging underneath, the tdi don't have one

What exactly you are referring to?

Difference between tsi and tdi vrs!

Exactly the engine I'll be getting when my lease finishes on my L&K. I really fancy a convertible in my life again, so I'll probably go 435d...obviously my DTUK box will follow with me!

I think the BMW 6 cylinder diesels are streets ahead of all the others in terms of smoothness and refinement. I had an E60 530d and with a Superchips remap it was a very fast cruiser, and surprised a lot of cars as to how quick it was! Anyway...nearly forgetting we are on a Skoda forum haha.

I mean what part of the car?

I mean what part of the car?

The rear! On a petrol you can see the right hand back box clearly and on a diesel there's nothing there!

If you mean missing right exhaust behind the fake exhaust pipe, I think this will be covered if the car has rough road package.

A vrs with a rough Road package?

Agreed their diesel motors are superb....also one of the few out there that dont get breathless until around 5k rpm.

Whilst they are a little agricultural still by comparison I think their 4 cyl diesels are also excellent and probably better in terms of outright performance than the equivalent VAG units.....I was so tempted to get a F21 LCI 120d M Sport instead of the GTD but it stood to cost me more in contribution, tax and was nothing like as well equipped....think the Golf actually looks better too so was quite an easy decision.

A vrs with a rough Road package?

That option is available in my configurator, roughly translated a "additional undertray protection", and I have seen a picture somewhere but I cant find it now.

I upset a police unmarked patrol vrs a while ago when I was running my rx8 230.
