Bull Bar

Featured Replies

Not many bulls running around the streets of Britain.  Bull bars are often just the right height to endanger children.

Suggest you consider this:

From 25th May 2007 for motor vehicles categorised as M1 (a passenger carrying vehicle not exceeding 3.5 tonnes and not more than 8 passengers) or N1 (a goods vehicle not exceeding 3.5 tonnes) it will only be legal to manufacturer and sell bull bars that comply with EU Directive 2005/66/EC.

It will be illegal to manufacture and sell bull bars that do not conform to this legislation punishable by a maximum penalty, to be imposed within the UK, of 12 months imprisonment and/or a fine of £20,000.

Thanks or your  comments, and your suggstion, but i was aware of  the  Eu Directive.  The Italian Bull Bar that I posted the link to, is actually covered by the Eu Directive if you read it.

Whilst your observations are quite correct concerning the lack of  bulls in Britain, there are however a great  deal of sheep up here in Northumberland, and one made a huge dent in the front of my  pal's Chevy Dayvan.before Christmas!

At least he had something to go with the turkey over the festive season.

A german friend up in the cotswolds hit a deet it totalled his bull bar and one wing

on his Mazda truck

I suggest you speak to your insurance company before you spend any money. Many will refuse to cover you with one fitted, even if it is an EU approved one.

And if you do hit one with a sheep it will not stop any damage to the car! I've seen too many of these just fold up!

Did it RAM him  :D

It did indeed, and he felt extremely sheepish afterwards.   :D  :D  :D

Poor lamb!

Sheep are not that inclined to run at oncoming Day Vans so i assume your mate drove into the sheep.

Pretty careless really when you know there are sheep around that can get onto the road.

I have had the type of Bull Bar in the link fitted to a Jimny for 13 years but only for stylee purposes,

I have had the odd cow scratch its self against it and one mad cow drove into it while parking on a high street and that required me to use a winch to pull it back into place.

They really are style over function.

There is a polyethylene based Smart Bar made in South Australia but I can't find one for the Yeti.........little demand I'd expect

Looking at the images I can't see what differentiates an "approved" one from one that isn't.  Both appear to be stainless steel.  If it is how they are mounted then I assume that anything mounted to be deformable would essentially become just a garnish and ineffective against sheep, deer, bulls and children (and at risk of causing more damage than they prevent).

That said, they would make a good platform for mounting auxiliary lights.

Two of my family members have hit deer - common around here - both fatal to the animal, despite slow impact speed.  In neither case would a teeny bull (?!) bar like that have helped the deer nor prevented the serious damage to the wing and lights that took the blow.

They were called 'nudge bars' I seem to recall and also for mounting auxiliary driving lights.

From my experience they are another example of bling over substance!

At one stage they were the "thing" to fit to the front of your Land Rover when going off road, but so many of my friends found that they protected nothing and actually caused more damage when the did hit something, because they folded up, that they ended up taking them off. And then the EU clamped down and insurance companies clamped down even harder.

I fell into the bling over substance category in my early 20's.

I had a Suzuki SJ310, THE vehicle of choice for the posers  of that era. I fitted a bull bar, not for protection, but because it was great for lounging against with hands in pockets and fag in corner of mouth, sometimes with a brothel creeper also resting against it. We thought it was the ultimate "bird puller" until some flash git came along with his Lotus Cortina.

Happy days.

You old smoothie, Fred!!

Poor lamb!

It didn't finish there the repairers pulled the wool over his eyes and fleeced him, baa!

Visions of Grease U.K. style Fred )))))

Sorry Bull Bars do nothing for me or the Yeti.

Where do you stop?

Fit bull bars - add weight

Uprate springs to carry more weight

Uprate dampers to cope with added weight

Increase aero drag for worse economy

There would need to be a very big sheep problem I'm thinking

We have a real problem around dawn and dusk near watering holes.......the kangaroo

I know someone who is paralysed from the waist down due to being hit by a car with a bull bar. If the car had not had the bars she would have gone onto the bonnet/windscreen and had a much less dramatic impact and would probably still be living a normal life.

OK so bull bars have the potential to protect your paintwork - but also have the potential to destroy someone's life.

Please reconsider your "need" for this item. Paint, metal and plastic can be easily replaced. Someone's ability to move, less so.

Bull bars...cherished plates... how pathetic can you get ?
