Ear ache & Nausea !

Featured Replies

Ok. Now I was ****ed off yesterday driving Zagrab -> Zadar the cabin pressure is annoying and definitely now 100% sure a problem driving on highway!

Last time I tough I just had a headache but no it was from cabin pressure and noise. My mother was on passenger seat and also her ears ware shut from pressure so it is not only my subjective opinion.

:swear:

I don't get no "boom" sound like on other topic.

Any ideas guys this is really killing the experience of my new car. I don't go on highway to often but still it is killing my ears and head. Also on short trips on highway I didn't experience pressure. Only on longer trips and speeds above 140 to 160 km/h. And I don't plan to drive 130 or less.

I now have summer 18 tires, last time I had this problems I was on winter 16 tires so I don't think it's tire related?

I noticed strange air pressure changes when in a (horrible) rapid courtesy car. The pressure changes felt like an aircraft descending from altitude experienced In the ears.

The car pressure changes coincided with what fan speed was set in the car.

Also, with the fan speed set relatively high a high pitched whistling noise was heard inside. I can only deduce that the air inside the car was escaping somewhere but to me gave the impression that air pressure inside the car was to high?

I have never experienced this phenomenon in any other brand car.

Personally as Skoda is a cheap brand the engineering and design is somewhat lacking thus has led to creation of certain problems with this being one of them. Its certainly not a one off problem.

I drove a Seat Leon for a week, the noise on poor road surfaces in that was horrendous - I thought a wheel bearing had gone it was that loud!

Build quality on that particular car was awful, a 64 plate and all the door edge seals were dropping off, it rattled from everywhere, and the stereo was awful - a really 'boomy' bass even with the all the EQ set to zero - it was hitting a resonant frequency that made it impossible to listen to at any decent volume level.

Sounds like my cars twin :-D

I don't get the boom but if I open just one of the rear windows a bit I get a similar effect.  It's quite unpleasant.

A buffeting noise?

thrumming noise, you can feel changes of pressure in the cabin.

I think my car does same but It stops when a second window is opened a little to allow free airflow.

I think a lot of cars do this though.

I opened the windows a bit and pressure dropped a little bit but sill there in my ears. AC was on with AUTO option.

That is common to most cars and is alleviated by opening more than one window. The pressure/boom issue people report is different.

I see this comment quite a lot on the forums, I am not sure it is true?

They are a more entry level VAG car it's true, but they are not a "cheap" brand IMHO - given the actual cost and family pedigree, I expect a certain level of quality and performance and for the most part it is there...seems only a few things where the cost is cut and these tend to stand out a bit!

The car is not cheap at a cost to the consumer but I feel the engineering behind said car is done down to a low cost. Hence all the problems and niggles mostly due to poor material choice, design flaws and poor quality.

Today my 64 plate octavia was parked next to an 11 plate kia sportage (maybe a brand seen as cheap?) my car looked the older vehicle. By this I mean my wheel hubs, wheel nuts and calipers looking poor show due to surface rust. The kia looked brand new despite a few years older. And I used to see kia as a cheap brand.

Thankfully my car does not have a positive pressure Aircon system or 'booms' so I'm at least grateful for missing out on those issues.

yep I get this. Have to open two and that seems to sort it out. But never known anything like it before at such low speeds.

not at such low speeds though. I consider myself lucky. I haven't got the full on boom/nausea/ear popping issue. I'd have to return the car if I couldn't drive it comfortably.
