Think this can be repaired?

Probably, although it's quite close to the sidewall, depends if the rubber mushroom head will sit flush, it's worth a try.

Yep.

Thanks.

Is it all good to drive on or do I need to put the spare on? Never had one before!

Tyres are a week old as well.

It's in the centre 75% of the tyre, and the hole will be less than 6mm diameter, so that's pluggable, but don't put the job off. If you're not doing any long journeys until you go to get it done, and it's not losing air, I personally wouldn't change to the spare.

Thank you. I have a 25 mile commute at motorway speeds. Can get it done somewhere near work I imagine. Think I'll be alright with that?

No. Change it for the spare. You don't want a sudden blowout at motorway speeds.

Depends where you take it for repair, some tyre places now say if it's in the outer/inner 1/3rd of tyre they won't plug them.

Because they're greedy idiots, ask them to do a puncture repair, if they refuse take it elsewhere.

I have good experience with plugging. The best i the type with a lap/flange inside.

No- the head will possibly move around and damage the tyre, and when the hole gets large enough the tyre will deflate rapidly- not nice. Best that will happen is you need new tyre. Worst =new car.

Could you elaborate - the youtube videos I have seen use a tool to insert a ~50mm strip (folded in the middle through the tool) into the cleaned hole - link to a picture perhaps ? Or are you describing a repair where you have access to the inside of the tyre ?

Reason for interest is that, apart from a fabia, I also have a car with no provision for a spare so I want to be prepared for a possible future roadside rescue job.

Yes you have to take the tore off if you shall make a good job with a lap inside. In smaller hole it not necessary. I have done this many time and its working for a long timen. I have not seen loosen....

One time I was cod driver with a big truck, and we get a leak. I was just a little hole and my friend put a wick/strip with som glue on, and it worked over 2000 km, into we came home. After that Im not sure what he did? Il just tell that it handle 80 pound/inch.

I ment tire off... I cannot edit it now...

Thanks.

I wouldn't drive on that. I personally wouldn't even repair it, but I'm very picky about that sort of thing.

Also the wear on them doesn't look a week old to me. Camber problem?

The phrase then is "I'm as familiar as you are with BSAU159f:1997. Stop trying to rip me off and mend the tyre"

Thanks for the reply. I did put the spare on straight away after a few replies on this thread.

I probably underestimated it, they are a little older than that. Even wear across them.

Interesting!

I've known a few people to repair tyres with DIY kits, Not something i would ever do personally... Im picky about that type of thing as well, i'd always replace if i've had some use from the tyre, if its a very new, expensive tyre then i might consider a repair and putting it on the back.
