Android Auto - LG G3.

Marshmallow firmware for the LG G3 has been released today via the LG Suite, tried AA earlier today but it failed, however since the firmware upgrade this evening its not working fine -

I now need to find a list of supported apps.

Just wanted to share as the G3/4 have had some issues in the past with this.

Thanks

*now working fine.

Have your tried MirrorLink yet?

ALL APPS ARE SUPPORTED as it is literally just mirroring your phones screen to the car's display.

I had to use the native car app that come with my phone to get the landscape viewpoint, and then add the apps to the shortcut menu, but it works great.

Was weird watching YouTube on the screen, everso slight sync issue, but totally watchable.

I tried AndroidAuto too and found that it lacked app support. With MirrorLink you can use Waze instead of Google Maps...

I'm planning a short video to bung up on YouTube soon.

The LG 3G does not support mirror link from what I have read..

I would like to get that working somehow...

Are there any apps which can replicate the function to get this working ?

Thanks

Doesn't Mirrorlink switch off the screen when the car moves more than 5mph? I had that issue with my Fabia and an Xperia phone... Which mirrors the screen when stationery but has a warning message which blacks out the screen if you start moving (so Google Maps or Waze via Mirrorlink just doesn't work... Only the approved "Sygic Navigation" app available on Google Play Store for a stupidly expensive price works for in car navigation via Mirrorlink).

Android Auto of course works perfectly fine with Google Maps.

Can you adjust settings so that apps work while you're driving?

Not for me of course but the passenger could use them.......

I have a G4 and it can use mirrorlink - but it says I have no apps that support mirrorlink. Mirrorlink is a forerunner to android auto so I will stick with the more modern version

So having a play with this, for Google Maps, Spotify and Amazon Music it works fine...  but is that it ? is that all it can do ?

The factory fit sat nav is on par with the Google maps, and im not really a great user of Spotify (free account) and Amazon music, first time have used it, (wifes account for amazon prime) - though the downside is going to be my data usage!

Thanks.

I have player FM, tune in radio, beyond pod as well. But yes it gives you google maps, audio apps and Google now.

It wont work via the update centre on the phone just yet... plug the phone into laptop and download it via the LG Suite -   just press "check for update" and it will download to laptop and then download it to the phone.

took 15/20 mins in total

Just guessing, but the OP probably has a non-network phone (Carphone Warehouse, direct from LG etc). The networks don't give you direct updates, they (eventually) get the original manufacturer images then tweak them. Usually it's to add their logos, bloatware apps and sometimes even usage trackers! As such it takes much longer to get an update on a network provided phone, unless you root it or otherwise get it back to 'stock'.

No. Its a Vodafone provided phone. Provided by them, locked by them and running their local firmware.

As said, I could not update via the phone had to go via the LG suite.

interesting how it worked for yours and not mine. have have tried lg support tool, lg pc suite, and the phone and no success.

the phone is a contract free phone, on an ee orange network.

My LG G3 is sim free, no branding, direct from LG.

No update so far, tried LG tool, PC Suite and phone/wireless network.

Yeah it is strange

Updates are often staggered to save bandwidth and minimise impact from any missed bugs don't forget guys. If you're certain of your hardware version you could always download and flash the ROM yourself.
