S3 oil temp

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have golf mk6 2.0 (140hp), almost the same engine as in mk7, or superb 3..

Oil temp in mk6 never goes over 100 celsius (it is 91 when in city, and around 100 on highway >140kmh)..

In superb 3 it is between 95 and 113.. 95 when driving 50-60kmh, and 115 when aprox 150-160 on highway.

Is that to high? Becouse if i remember correctly, it is no good when temp is >110? (I read it in manual, dont have it now to check).

What is your expirience?

on my cr engined octavia it sits around 90 when running but has been around 100 in traffic.

ambient temp has an effect so i expect it to be higher when the weather gets warmer.

I seem to remember that my Tiguan has managed 129 degrees after prolonged 'high speed' driving in hot temperatures so not totally unusual.

I now checked manual and its stated that normal oil temp is 80-110 celsius...

Having just done a 1400 mile round trip to Switzerland I found my oil temp was running up to 115 degrees when running for a prolonged period at around 80mph/130kph.

Strangely though it would occasionally dip to around 105 degrees. Maybe it is a question of wind speed and how much air resistance there is at different wind speeds.

Just had a look in the manual I have but cannot find any reference to oil temperature.  Never had a car before that told me the oil temperature, what are the requirements and why should I know what the temperature is.

Personally I'd want the oil up to operating temp (85 plus) before giving it any real beans, but that's about it. Most people think the water being at 90 means the engine is warm, but often the oil isn't even registering at 50 yet in my 220 while the water is showing as being up to temperature.

I have same expirience with Octavia 3 vRS (184 ps tdi), when outside temp is 15-20C, constant speed 160 , oil temp is 115+

This is probably ok, but when driving 220-230, temp is 130+.

Local service guys are clueless, I was starting to consider writing to Skoda. It is good to hear that my engine is not exception.

This is driving me towards 2.0 tsi for Superb purchase.

Do it! You won't regret it... ;)

Read somewhere that the VW 507 00 oil is good for up to 140c. Can't find the reference though.

Just a general run round this morning and mine was sitting at 100 degrees, the other weekend on a cool day motorway driving to London it was 105 degrees.  I am assuming that the oil temperature will drop a little once the engine has run in and loosed up otherwise it seems like it sits at the higher end of Skoda's statement just normal driving.  Dreading to think what it will be driving through Germany fully laden at 130kph (80Mph) in Summer at 30+ degrees

True, but don't forget the active shutter tech on our newer Skodas. The basic premise being that the front grill is shuttered closed unless the engine needs the extra active cooling from the outside air. This means the car is much more aerodynamic and suffers less drag, thus saving on fuel and emissions. I imagine in these temperate times the front shutter is essentially always closed, but in summer temperatures it will open, and thus the engine will remain much cooler anyway? Just speculation, mind you, not concrete fact.

Mine sits around 97°C typically - about 5-8 miles after the water temp hits it's centre mark.

You need to go to highway, and drive it for 10-15 min at 180 km/h speed to see it. At 130 km/h is below 110C, but at 180 km/h goes higher. Temperature raise is accumulating and after 10-15 min is stable.

I know that most people dont drive that fast, but in some countries (like Germany) is perfectly legal, car is stable, and I am assuming that car should be usable at these speeds if max is at 235 km/h.

Btw, water temperature is at 90C, so you need to be in oil temp menu to notice this
