After the car detects you have removed your hands from the steering wheel after several seconds you get this message to take over (then a beep and then if you ignore it it will apply the brakes... sharply!) it has nothing to do with the quality of the road markings.

Well yesterday being a " roaster" took the car for a wander around Wales. On an empty road i let " lane assist show what it can do--- went round two bends great then on the 3rd it "invited" me to take over ! The mk1 computer ( me ) could not see any difference in the quality of the white road markings bur "lane assist could --- Seems a waist of money.

tried my camera memory card in the columbus -- no joy ,it was refused ----- so two "downers" !

I HAVE TRIED THIS AS WELL SAME RESULT IT TURNED THE CAR ROUND THE BEND THEN TOLD ME TO TAKE CONTROL. I was very impressed had I dozed off I would not have crashed and would then have been brought to a halt on the road. Vastly preferable to hitting another car of a tree.

I think that's worth every penny and worth a lot. As for so slot I have 2 32gig cards occupying  the two slots in my car one has 13 gig of music in wma, mp3,  format working great and the other has 25 full length films on for when we are camping. They work fine as well.

Hi,

The L&K 190 S3 has KESSY as standard.

Nope. At least not in Sweden.

I think that you will find that you can, just turn it off by pressing the switch to the left of the parking brake switch, job done.

Thanks Prykey-- Yep did read that but being "punch drunk" from reading the "good book" from cover to cover the penny did not drop........

Will give it a try tomorrow-- neighbors are not going to be amused at this hour if i try it now !------ thanks.

The Owners Manual takes a bit of reading!

Remember though that by turning it off your parking brake will not automatically engage.

I had a choice -- owners manual or Coronation Street.........................

Owners manual every time

Hi Prykey,

Yep just as you said ----- great !

Now just remember to flick the handbrake switch or keep your foot on the brake when you stop---otherwise. I switched the auto hold off some time ago as I didn't like it when manoeuvring in tight spaces plus it made restart from stop/start very jerky.

That switch off also appeared to coincide with a slight improvement in mpg but that may just be coincidence.

I still find myself reaching for the handbrake lever  :peek:

Yep---- and the gear lever !

I'm going to find it strange too having a S2 manual and handbrake for the last six years.

Had a drive out today to Teeside Park, then down to Northallerton and back home. Total 77miles, all with the top Box still on the car, all be it empty. Must make room in the garage for it tomorrow, anyway 46.1 with the roof box Im happy with that considering the old car would have just about made 40mph without  a roof box.post-140878-0-18808200-1463146750_thumb.jpg

Hi ,

Have since learned that it WILL play the S.D. card from our camera-- had a play round this afternoon. Went on "devices" and hey presto  there's the camera card !

Just to clarify: Lane Assist does exactly what is says on the tin. It assists you in keeping the car in the lane you're currently travelling in via gentle nudges through the steering wheel when necessary. This applies to straight roads, dual carriageways and motorways.

It's not designed as a cornering aid. Don't rely on it to drive the car around any kind of corner for you as it may (and probably will) release at any time, potentially pitching you off the road or worse, into oncoming traffic.

Hi,

Columbus SatNav-- not looked at it as of yet but this afternoon driving down a local road it informed me that  at the junction ahead there's a Texaco petrol station---- Er yes there was 6 years ago ,its now a Lidl supermarket !  Our Local Asda is shown as selling petrol-- its never done so ! do wonder who's maps they are using. Our Cheap ( £38.00 ) Chinese Sat Nav is more up to date .

On a car thats only a week old...................

do wonder who's maps they are using. Our Cheap ( £38.00 ) Chinese Sat Nav is more up to date .

The last update was November 2015, next is June 2016.

The map data is provided by 'Here' who also provide data to BMW, Daimler, Garmin as well as VW group.

Hmm, they must have had updates in the past so how could they not notice the difference between a Texaco petrol station & Lidl ? not to mention Asda not selling petrol ... looks like my "cheapo Sat Nav is not redundant !

When you consider the sheer quantity of information that goes into creating a database of this size it's inevitable really that a) mistakes will be made by the compilers and b ) that the sources the compilers work from will have inaccuracies too.

POIs are only as accurate as the companies or organisations that supply them. If Texaco never told them that they closed a station, how would they know?

I never use the built-in POIs to be honest. They can be updated if I did. The next map update due next month may have all of the LIDLs listed separately ;)

well did 213 miles today round North Wales & Anglesey-- car now has the required 1000+miles on the clock so now can tow the caravan.........

Hi,

Bought a back bumper protector for when the car arrives. Car arrives ( Yep, those who are waiting -- it does happen ! ) Tried the bumper protector and was not impressed. As i needed something and it was better than nothing i fitted it ( finding out that the tissue "wipe" to clean the surface  was dry ) looked -er- awful ! Went on "fleabay" and found one that looked a lot better. Ordered it and it turned up yesterday a much better product-- it curves over the edge of the bumper and the raised parts match the cars own protector . Its now fitted and i am far happier ! In the photo the first bumper protector is on the ground.
