Software changes after service?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I got a letter like some of you regarding my 2.0 tdi CR engine from Skoda after they or rather VW admitted cheating on the emissions.

I did nothing about it.

But last week I had my 40000 mile service and my fuel economy is worse now. Do you think they did something to the engine software on instructions from VW? I mean, have they made everything 'accurate' now instead of lying before?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

It's possible.  What confuses me is how my instant MPG figure on my dash reports better figures than what torque reports, despite that being reported from the ECU also.

From everything I have seen, they need your strict permission to be able to do the upgrade as it could cause issues if the car has been remapped and/or DPF removed.

They should not have done 'The Fix',  not approved.

But the car should go on the diagnostics at a Main Dealer Service and any Software Update should be done,

and the customer / owner should be told.

So ask them.

Then they should check and adjust tyre pressures, have you checked?

The Oil might not be the same, i know it is new Oil, but did you know what oil was in, what oil was used at the service?

Was there a new Air Filter Fitted.

The Fix should not be done at a Service until approved.

Odd how many recent Software Updates at Services have drivers thinking Fuel Consumption is worse.

Ask the Dealership to ask the Master Tech did your car get a Software Update.  *Do not trust what a Service Desk Receptionist tells you.*

ASK IN WRITING, ASK FOR A REPLY IN WRITING.

Check the other stuff yourself.

They might have updated the ECU software but I doubt it will be 'the fix' as I'm pretty sure it's not been approved yet.

If you have access to VCDS can you post an autoscan? It'll tell us what hardware and software version your ECU is and therefore compare it to other cars of a similar type. If the software version matches then it's probably not been upgraded.

Thats because the dash is only a guide - there is even an adaption channel to adjust the figures shown on the FL.

When compared to the brim-to-brim figures my car was about 13% optimistic so I've adjusted the instrument cluster meaning it's within a mpg or two of the brim-to-brim figures.

Have you checked full tank to full tank figures to ensure the economy really has changed and its not just the ECU having been reset and having to re-learn the parameters (Or something similar)?

They'd be entering into even more muddy waters than before if they're changing software on customers cars without permission. I'd be surprised if they have but who knows!

My car was serviced 12 days ago and the dealer told me that the 'emissions' software change was not yet available.  No change in mpg following the service.

I'd bet on some other things than emission fix - tyre pressure, fuel from another petrol tank, different driving style (may occur unconsciously, for example, if there's some trouble at work), different driving conditions etc.

When I bought my Octavia a few months ago the dealer said when the Emissions recall fix is done they'd put a sticker in the boot (under the carpet I think) where they put all the recall info. Maybe check your boot and see if your dealer has done the same.

As philbes says - I had an update letter recently saying the fix wasn't yet ready.
