VRS estates with mud flaps.

Featured Replies

Still undecided whether to fit them to my estate, can anyone post pics of there cars with them on please, preferably with 19in wheels, thanks.

Do you really want those mud flaps? I personally wouldn`t put them on and the reason is because over a period of time dirt, dust and muck will build up between the flap and the bumper gap and the vibration will rub your paint off.

Could you not put some foam tape on to stop it rubbing? I am intending to put them on my hatch. The mess kicked up on the roads has been ridiculous. I think the benefits outweigh the negatives personally.

You could but foam tape will come off easily after couple of hours driving in wet conditions or after a good car wash I think and how would you hide it under the flap to make it not so visible :peek:  I would rather leave it then. And what really are the benefits of having mud flaps? Sorry to ask  :D

Only photo I have with the flaps fitted, I like them think they look better with.

At least you can see the outline on this pic, I'll try grab a better one tomorrow.

The benefits are way less muck and dirt along the doors.

The difference pre and post mudflaps was quite noticeable when got them.

So, let's be clear. The fear is that when you take the mud flaps off there will be either damaged or no paint left. Despite it sounding like a Facebook hoax I have a cure (since I'm an 'out of the box thinker') DONT TAKE THEM OFF.

Problem solved?

I fitted the fronts to my white VRS, I have now ordered some black vinyl to stick to the leading edge as there is a tab that goes between the arch liner and the painted surface which leaves a big white gap. So I'm going to take them back off and put the vinyl where the gap would be. Then obviously I'm going to lie awake at night worried about what will happen to the paint after I've handed it back to the dealer in a couple of years time.....

Love it, on form tonight mate!!!

Thanks I think ;)

They certainly stop the majoity of dirt thrown up from caking onto the lower side of the bumper. Had mine on virtually since new in early 2014. I can never get pictures onto this site, To fit or not is all about preference. Some people get paranoid about their cars. For me its just a Rallye Green Vrs Tsi estate that goes quickly and from my point of view looks nice

Love your attitude and totally agree. We all see things differently. I see mine as a car I like, others see it as a 'she' or some kind of mythical beast. Despite my insolence above, I can understand why people would worry about undue damage.

I will be fitting the rears when the vinyl arrives. Really can't be bothered taking the wheels off to drill the last hole but I guess it's worth an afternoon with the life threatening scissor jack to get it done right ;)

Its a while since I did my front & rear, but I think I used the car jack(I have spare wheel). I used one of those right handled ratchet driver tools to fit them. Or you can improvise using just a hex driver bit and small spanner on this. Took around 30 mins for all 4

Yeah, getting the two original torx screws in is easy but I need to secure the third which needs a drilled hole or maybe a 3m pad. Wheels will have to come off! Unless there are some viable jacking points in the VRS? There certainly wasn't any on my Leon!

Mine is coming next Thursday and that night it will be in my garage, up in the air on my two poster (I'm a lucky boy!) and all the wheels wil be off for the flaps to go on, whilst I'm at it I'm going to paint the disc bells with aluminium paint, then its off with the front bumper to fit the Superskoda grill and the splitter, lol. Good heads up with the clear film to put on the bumper/wing to protect the paint - may as well whilst I'm doing it.

Don't know about the rears as mine came fitted but the fronts can be done on full lock. As far as I can remember, it's a 7mm hole drilled in the plastic arch liner to receive a plastic plug. I drilled mine at 45 degrees with a 6.5mm bit and all was fine.

My neighbour has a VRS TDI 12 plate - 40k miles and no flaps. Bodywork is in good nick. Third Skoda for me VRS 230 no flaps for me; 7k per year always look after my cars and mostly town driving undertaken negates the need for flaps IMO.

The 45 degree option did cross my mind. The rears is V tight though so not much chance lol.

As for a a 2 post lift, what can I say??? Good mods CherryVRS enjoy!

Thanks for the advice, main reason I got them is the roads round our way seem to be incredibly bad for covering the car in tar, I was forever removing huge amounts from my A4 and some of it around the sills was impossible to shift, it was dark blue so hardly noticeable but it'll stick out like a sore thumb on meteor grey.

As I say its ages since I did mine but just looked, I may have done it with the drill round the inside of the wheel. But I serm to remember there was a hole already in where the instructions said there wasn't somewhere.

Did mine a while back. Rears you are using he existing grommets and holes already there for the wheel arch liner. Fronts request that an extra hole is drilled and an extra grommet is provided each side. But you are still using existing grommets and holes for the remaining two fixing points. They fit fine and I'm happy with them on my estate. Subtle too.

Not the best picture but you get the idea.....

I wouldn't be without them now as they keep so much crap off the side of the car.

Pity you're so far away, you'd be welcome to use my lift anytime

Anyone got a link for where to buy from, or are they just standard from a dealer?
