Suspension

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Just a quick question. Im sure I've heard that suspension should settle over time.

Does this mean it will get more supple and lower? And how long would this be expected to happen?

Cheers

not in my experience?

I heard the opposite - as in, modern suspensions do not settle.

When you change springs in your car and drop it to the ground again, that is what you going to to get.

Might take a few minutes of driving to come to normal, but it is definitely an almost immediate thing.

Years ago, when I worked in a Morris garage, suspensions used to settle so much in the first 500 miles that the headlights needed realigning.  These cars had leaf springs at the back which did tend to flatten quite a bit, but it only affected the ride height, not the softness of the springs..

Nowadays, suspensions hardly seem to settle at all.  I think people just get used to the ride over time so it doesn't feel quite so harsh.

Brilliant, thanks for the replies.

Obviously old tosh.

I think around 100k you start to notice it.
