Guess I'll be popping back in to Skoda shortly then :dull:

Where is this?

looking at the picture it looks like the crease on the bootlid. it was an issue with the mk2 octavia too, i had it with my first mk2  octavia it resulted in a new bootlid as the repair kept failing

Yeah, it's a crease edge on the left hand side, looking at it from the back, of the tailgate (it's an estate):

I'm wondering if it's a rusty knob of weld coming through as I thought the tailgate was galvanised.

it looks like the sealant has cracked and water has got in and caused it to rust. the bootlid is made in 2 parts and when its opened and closed it causes that part to flex and can cause the issue

Still the galvanising should protect it to some extent... Even my wife's old saxo she had years ago had loads of paint missing from the wheel arches from stone chips but they didn't rust in the 2 years she had it as the galvanising was obviously effective

Needs to go back to the dealer!

French cars seem to be good at staying rust free. A few years ago I bought a battered 206 cheap to use while I sold my TT. It had a massive crease on the bonnet which had split the paint and two big holes in each door at the side of the lock where somebody had tried to gain entry and despite years of British weather and bear metal there was no sign of rust. The brake lines however...........

Photo's taken by my local dealership and being sent to a 'Paint Manager', who'll then look to getting SUK to sanction repair.  I'm glad to say their suggested bodyshop is the one I'd choose locally, so we're agreed on that :)

It's going in next Tuesday for an early first service and to look at a creak on the OSF suspension.  Should have an answer about the rust then.

The work sheet has a special request - do not wash!

Gaz

they will take paint thickness measurements too to check for accident damage that may have been repaired. shouldn't be any issues with them authorising a repair

Repair request has initially been declined by Skoda UK.  Although to be fair, this may be down to the quality of the photo's taken.

Request being re-submitted early next week with better quality photo's.

Good pictures or bad pictures they are having a laugh when someone in Milton Keynes rejects something on the strength of some pictures.

If the car has not been inspected at the Dealership by a qualified employee and only pictures were taken,

they can arrange for an inspection and report from a Qualified person.

An area Warranty Manager can look and decide who should check the problem area if he / she is not Qualified in Vehicle Paint Finishes.

They try it on with issues that are reoccurring and the factory knows of them.

Looks like some kind of steel eating worm...

I have personal experience of the inconsistency of Skoda dealerships and rust.

I'd ask to get something in writing confirming SUK refused your warranty request. I'd also be surprised if the dealership used your photographs, they should have used their own. I never submitted any photographs to the dealership to submit to SUK, they supplied their own.

One dealership denied my warranty request on the grounds it was a 'paint' issue. Went to a different dealership and they disagreed, and submitted my request to SUK who agreed.

However, that brought it's own problems!

I've not yet heard from my local dealership, so will pop in and see them tomorrow lunchtime.

They had it all day last week, so could have taken as many photo's as they liked.  I just obliged them with high res photo's to save a bit of time.

Consumer Direct have indicated that if Skoda UK decline to provide a 'long term solution' (i.e. sort it out) I should go back to them with a view to rejecting the car.  I certainly have no wish to own a potential rotbox (it does appear to be just the tailgate that's affected).

keep chasing them. it was a common issue on the mk2 so there shouldnt be an issue with skoda saying yes..... however some dealers are woefull at getting warranty work done

Repair approved and it's going in next Tuesday for three days

Gaz

Funny that!

Happy for you. :)

Back and repaired to an 'acceptable standard' (according to my dealership):

Although I'm left with the unerring sense of a need to keep an eye on it.

Looks like they have just painted over it

I can see why...

It's quite hard to tell and I'm not sure.  Some evidence of more than just paint (there was more dust there earlier):

Putting before and after next to each other (not ideal due to light and angle) it looks different in shape and not how I'd expect a touch-up to cover it:

Time will tell I guess.

Keep an eye on it. If it's gonna happen again it will do so quickly. On my mk2 the repair lasted around 6 months, the bodyshop recommended that the bootlid be replaced but Skoda would not authorise that, once the repair failed they then authorised a new bootlid and it was fine after that

Oh good sleuthing that man - mochas gracias George 👍

It's obviously me doing something wrong, but when I search on threads I started, I can't see anything before 24 October 2021:

Which is odd as I've been on here since 2012

And which led to my finding the "Skelmorlie Secret Bunker" at 55.834160, -4.885608 .
