Need For Non-stock Dv?

Featured Replies

I know that a lot of us here have non-stock DV's, for various reasons. One of those reasons seems to be, the stock DV 'will fail' or is likely to.

I was at Awesome GTI today getting some other bits for the car and asked jim the same question I asked him a year ago - 'Do i need another DV?'

He gave me the same answer saying that he could sell me one but the stock DV's used now are very good and he sees no need to change it. In fact, he says that all APR in America do regards DV's is replace older ones with current stock ones as they feel they're no problem anymore.

So, there's conflicting info. but for now, I'm not going to spend any money on one but would be very interested to hear other people's opinions and experiences about this.

That's the same answer I have got from two different companies. Guess which two (see my thread :D )?

Huck,

Jabba didnt even ask me if i wanted to change, and even if they had, i would have kept the money in the bank for now.

Change the DV if / when you need to, and not before ;)

Piston DV's react faster than the OE rubber diaphragm ones.

Early ones failed regularly, especially on chipped motors. Later DV's would seem more reliable yea, but they aint any faster, and piston DV's will give a better between gear spool up and less lag.

Thanks Bill.

So lately it is more about the performance aspect than failing stock ones as a reason for changing then?

I was told by Jabbasport that the stock one was perfectly suitable for the car post-remap - but opted to have a Bailey DV fitted after the remap anyway. I am keeping the stock one as a spare and for fault isolation if I ever need to establish whether or not the DV is causing a problem.

I was tempted to swap but Jabba said there was no "need" to swap. The same bosch unit we have was fitted on the 911 turbo - if it's good enough for porsche its good enough for me!

(55k, 34k of which remapped, no problems tho Horners swapped it at 45k "just to be sure \ looking to remove another problem)

the only swap that could make the "Millenium falcon Combi" faster would be in the contents of the front seat... slow boy.

Another well constructed opinion, thanks paul.

(and I sorted the problem in the front seat - found a lighter passenger than you :D)

(not that it was difficult)

:D

Aftermarket DVs tend to be more shiny as well - which should obviously be reason enough to change on its own (well - for me anyway :D ).

Hisssssss!

Although black ones are available. Personally, I prefer my engine etc to all look stock, so that is an option.

I have absolutely no problem at all trying another DV. I was just interested to hear other people's opinions about their reasons for changing the DV, as per the opening post.

So, yeah, I may like to try one. Cheers mate :)

Huck,

You have a PM.
