Moan about bulbs....

Featured Replies

... or more to the point, WHY DO THEY PUT THE NEARSIDE FRONTS SO CLOSE TO THE DAMNED BATTERY BOX...

... and.... breathe....

As you can probably tell, after only 2 weeks of having the offside dipped blow (nice easy replacement, loadsa room) - the nearside blew on Xmas eve! :grumpy:

Took me longer to ease the cover outta there, than it took me to do the whole swap on the offside, Just everything's so damned tight down there with the battery box being in the way.... Hate it!

Hope this bulb lasts longer though. :)

At least you dont have a MK2 mondeo. I had the joys of changing a headlight bulb a week ago. To change that you need to remove the whole headlight, which in turn involves removing the radiator grill, so a simple job means undoing 6 screws and stripping of skin from knuckles just to change a bulb.

moan, moan, moan

Get somebode else to do it :)

If I had a SWMBO to do it, I wouldn't even force that task upon her. :) Would be the end of that relationship.

Was OK in the end, just seems silly....

It's a pain, I've been testing some quad-LED sidelight bulbs and they seem to blow regularly (given up now, gone back to standard!). I found it easiest if you remove the top and side battery box covers, adds about two thirds of an inch to move - not much, but makes it a bit easier.

Although in the design phase the bulbs are probably not even considered for ease of replacement, I think this stinks. The same is with most cars nowdays. You break down and need to replace a bulb. (remember the days when you bought a bulb kit) I think the designers are missing the basics. Moan, moan, moan. :D

I'm still puzzled with how I'm going to fit my new bulbs in the xenon units.

Is there any issues with removing the headlight? Will it need adjusting afterwards?

And J - make sure you don't drop the headlight cover in any gearbox cables! ;)

Sorry - someone had to!

Use the single led bulbs, i had the same trouble with the quads, but the singles are great.

:finger::D

You do NOT know how well I check those covers are attached once a bulb change is done! ;) I must shake the thing for 30 seconds to make sure nothing will make it come loose again. :D

Or in my case, break the grill as the screws had seized!! :thumbdwn:

You on the Mondeo forums??

Just try it on a V6 diesel Signum. I managed to do the dip beams, but I'd lost too much blood to go onto the mains!

Seems like a 'jobs for the boys' thing - the home mechanic is unfortunately a dying breed and the stealers make more money.

OctyII is dead easy. undo a plastic wing nut thingy, pull a lever and withdraw the headlight. Then take it into the warm confines of the house to do the work.

Renault Megane II is a different story. You need a double jointed monkey armed with a pair of pliers and a screwdriver to change the lamps in one of those and there's no guarantee he'll make it back alive so you might lose your deposit.

Much easier on the Mk3 - took me 5 minutes to change both dipped, main and sidelight bulbs and came out the other side completely unscathed :D
