Skoda Servicing add-ons

Featured Replies

Not sure if i'm gullible or a glutton for punishment (someone tell i'm neither please  :notme: )... but I just booked my car in for its first service, and agreed to add on the following, which were offered:

- Aircon sanitiser for £19.99 (clears out any mould/dust build ups in the vents or something)

- Smart card for £29.99 (some sort of loyalty reward card which gives me 5% off the cost of servicing and the sanitiser thing above)

Am I a mug?  :peek:  Or are these actually value for money in some way, shape or form??

You can do the air con yourself for £9.99. Its so easy. Halfords sell the purifier.

Your loyalty card would require £600's worth of servicing before it pays for itself (In not a mathemagician but I think that's right). First service is cheap I think (about £130?) second is more at £240 ish standard charge. Do the maths yourself to see if it's worth it to you!!

I was quoted £160 for my first service... I have to read up more on what this "Gold" card offers. I know it also includes 4 free car washes a year...!

Having your paint scratched by the monkey out the back has never been more convenient lol ;)

Any sort of loyalty card ties you into the people issueing it. If you get servicing by an indy at a cheaper rate you might as well shred the card.

These sort of cards don't in my view reward "loyalty" they are just a way of tying your hands.

If there is some sort of cooling off period I would ditch it.

First service is £149 on all models

http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/service-and-maintenance/simply-fixed/default/

So they're inflating the cost of it to £160 and then charging you £30 for a 5% discount?!!??

In the small print these prices are valid only for cars between 3-10 years old...

However, most people seem to pay the same as these prices for new cars.

€20 for a aircon clean is not so bad for a dealer price, its your choice whether its really necessary.

I've never cleaned the AC on any of my cars & have never had a problem with smell.

Its difficult to say "when" its needed because probably by the time you can smell a problem its already too late to completely get rid of it.

Loyalty card.... Don't think I would take it.

My car is washed after every visit anyway for free.

Cheers, will try cancel the loyalty card :)

Essex Auto Skoda?

Our nearest dealer, but we don't use them.

My Superb is out of warranty so it's off to a VW specialist in Chelmsford soon.

Yeah, the guys in Rayleigh - hoping they are half decent, never been there before.....

We have window-shopped there for a new car, but bought a VW in the end....

Iniitally I did wonder just how much the service dept. knew about Skoda's, but they've been there for a few years, so they should be at least half-decent.

When our Skoda's were still in warranty we used Spirit in Harlow, but that's a bit far from Wickford.

A possible alternative might be Prestons Garages in Writtle, they no longer sell new Skoda's but they are an approved servicing dealer.

Nice one, thanks DC!

My 1st service (Vrs TSI) was only £118. Probably not worth the loyalty card!

For the smart card to pay itself off, you would have to spend a total amount of £600 on servicing before you break even..... Your call, but personally I would be shopping around if I wasnt on a service plan.

Had a Fabia courtesy car whilst getting some work done. The drivers side had at least a dozen rubbing marks where the hose had been dragged over the rear hatch and down both doors.

The worst car wash known to man is the dealer exfoliating car wash

They washed mine when it was new apparently. No big deal with it being flat white. The 'valeters' failed to notice big bits of white delivery plastic over some of the paintwork while they were doing such a good job.

My file now says 'do not wash' after I had to take it in a few days after paying 250 quid for a detail and being petrified of them ruining it!!
