Aerial cable routing

Featured Replies

Can someone tell me where the aerial cable runs from the shark fin on the roof to the infotainment unit.

The reason I ask is that since I did a 5m cable run from the boot power socket to the dash for mobile power, my radio has been playing up with very patchy reception.

Ta.

The shark fin is not a radio aerial - it's for phone / satnav.

If I'm correct: the radio aerial is at the top of the rear windscreen glass meaning that the cabling will run down one side behind the rear door and along the floor of the car. Power cables for phone chargers can cause radio problems - you could try running your cable on the other side of the car as an experiment to see if it makes a difference. Personally I'd run something from the fuse box and have a shorter run.

Hi just an update n this, I had a seat Leon before my vrs and had an issue with poor radio reception. It turned out that the cigarette Adaptor I had was causing the interference to the radio. Unplug your rear boot Adaptor and in car one and then test. It may be the LED if any on the Adaptor. Seems strange how this causes so much interference.

May not be the same fault but worth a try. Also the aerial is on the top of the rear screen so don't put stickers in ya window!

The poor radio reception is usually caused by the power adaptor itself. Cheaply manufactured ones reduce the 12v to 5v by rapid switching and that generates a lot of radio frequency waves that can swamp the normal signals, especially as the Octavia does not have a particularly sensitive aerial in the first place. I went through several power adaptors before I found one that did not interfere. In the end I used one from my old TomTom satnav which does not cause any problems at all.

I've now installed a Griffin Power jolt adapter into the socket and fed the cable through to the front of the car hiding it under door seals and surrounds up to where the phone holder is and I don't have any interference.

I was using a BESTEK multi adapter which I have sent back to Amazon.
