Jacks?

Featured Replies

Any one know if a jack and wheel brace from a M2 Octavia will work/fit on a M3?

I enquired on this a while back and the majority of replies said no.  I ended up buying the 'kit' for a Mk3 to be sure.

Thanks for that.

I would have thought it would be okay.

The models are fairly similar in weight.

All it is is a sill pinch weld jack. The VW ones have been the same design for a long time.

Looking at some of the pictures of Skoda wheel changing kits they seem to be siscor jacks not like the type in the link above.

What about the wheel brace, are the nuts the same size throughout the VAG group?

Octavia is one of the lightest things in the VAG group, so I guess most jacks would fit, as long as the "head" is shaped as it should be (notch) and it's in mint condition.

I got myself a complete set with foam insert, tools, etc from A6 02' for 20€. Good deal overall, only things less-than-perfect are cosmetic: central screw for fixing the set is different than Octavia and the foam part has some play (smaller diameter).

Personally I prefer older tools, as they were made more solid. New ones are considered "only for fanatics if they must have it" and are often build like crap; check reports of people who had their jacks breaking apart under car being lifted...

All in all, if you have a set from older/heavier Octy, it should by all means be ok.

They aren't alike, the Yeti one (it's like the Mk2 Octavia) doesn't use the pinch seam to lift that is done by the reinforced area behind the seam (it uses the seam to stop the jack from slipping) , The mk3 lifts on the pinch seam and the supplied jack is a scissor jack.

Got the factory supplied space saver wheel and fitting kit with my Mk3 Octavia bought on 20th May. Exactly as in the handbook minus the compressor and puncture sealing gunk.

The polystyrene wheel insert also has a space for the towing hook which leads me to ask - if I didn't have the spare wheel and fitting kit where would the compressor, puncture repair gunk, towing eye, screwdrivers and tow bar hook go?

If it's anything like my OH's VW Up, there's a specially shaped polystyrene foam insert.

As mentioned above, the Mark 3 Octavia has a big polystyrene insert that sits in the hole where the spare would be, with lots of spare room to hide thing under the boot carpet.

Am I able to use this kind of jack for the Octavia 3? It is taken from a car with a kerb weight of 1280Kg.
