Dashcam wiring - Nextbase kit

I'd imagine you were either fitting the fuse tap the wrong way around or of the fuses is faulty/blown? Might need vcds/carista/odbeleven to reset the air bag warning light as you'll of tripped a code.

I'd recommend finding an empty fuse slot for the dash cam if there is one, I'm using slot 34 on mine which is "Heated windscreen washer jets" which my car doesn't have. No piggy back fusing, just straight in. No chance of tripping anything else.

I just installed my dashcam (Apeman) with a Nextbase kit. I used fuse slot 35 which the owner's manual says is "Not assigned" but is switched with the ignition key.

Note I think the way up the carrrier is installed matters - I have the wire pointing upwards (like the video shows too). Also the blue light on the Nextbase transformer box didn't come on until I started the engine (but my battery voltage was 11.4V so maybe that's the problem).

  • It's a fairly straightforward job.   The next base kit comes with a piggyback fuse which will slot into an existing fuse slot and allow you to take power from it.   This is how I fitted mine:

  • For the fuse just place the one that you remove into the empty slot on the piggyback fuse in the nextbase kit. The only thing to watch is to make sure to fit it with the wire coming out the bottom as

  • Just fitted mine following Flash's excellent guide. Took me about half an hour tops. Had to fully remove the fuse box right hand screw in order to get the wire through, but it fastened back

All done, thank you :)  Not nearly as professional looking as the photos above, but it works! :D

Top of screen, left a little slack in case I move it slightly.

Fuse box, I couldn't see any holes except where the cover hooks in, so we undid it quite a long way to push the cable through.... hope that looks ok.

So, I am possibly a complete idiot, but it's come round to uninstalling this dashcam, I unplugged the plug from the fusebox, got an airbag error! It must be me unplugging it surely, as it's a bit of a coincidence otherwise, but surely I didn't wire it to the airbag fuse? I've plugged it back in but the error is still there.

Airbag faults are latching and can only be cleared with an OBD diagnostic tool that can reset that module, VCDS and other VAG compatible OBD tools.

So you need to just clear the fault and hopefully it won't reappear.

Thanks, hopefully my local garage can do that. I'll sort the fuse first though. 😀 I couldn't get it out of the plug so had to put it all back in.

I'm getting an OBD cable to power the new one. 😀

Well, uninstalling the old cable took a lot longer than installing the new one. 😀
