Throttle feels funny!

Featured Replies

Had the tow bar fitted on Friday and when I was collecting my son later the accelerator didn't want to push down properly and I could only accelerate a certain amount - fortunately I didn't have far to go.

Once stopped I pressed it with my hand and whilst it goes all the way down it clicks.

Driving it around since its better but still doesn't feel entirely right to me. The resistance feels more than it was and the car less responsive.

I'm guessing that the fitter disturbed it when routing the cables to the front - assuming that is they run them up the drivers side?

Has anyone else had an issue with the throttle feeling a little odd?

Is it easy enough to remove to have a better look at it?

Has a Yeti got a throttle cable? I would have thought it would be 'fly by wire' as most cars are these days

Yes it certainly would be fly by wire - but the fitter may still have obstructed the pedal mechanism with electrical cables or not refitted the carpeting etc properly...

Carefully if the fitter has fouled electrical cable,I had nasty incident several years ago live cable from poor stereo installation being slowly sawed by throttle action once through the insulation centre wire of throttle heats up melts it's outer sheath then sticks wide open not funny.

So worth a look in the foot well

Thanks for the link Urrell and replies from the other guys.

Will have a look tomorrow before using for work!

Have you got an offroad button? If on that completely changes the feel of the throttle pedal even over the specific speeds during which the button works. Good luck.

No, mine's just 2WD.

If someone else drove it they would probably think it's alright now but for me it feels slightly different than it did before. The first part of the travel is fine but then press harder and there is more resistance than I remember.

I shall have a look today and if all OK see what it's like on my 20 mile commute.

As I said, when pressing by hand there is a click, so wondering if the bottom pivot isn't located properly?

It's bloomin' annoying when you take a car in for something and end up with a problem that is unrelated to the work being done.

My Golf Mk V11 throttle pedal is like this I thought it was normal....... :|

It's the fact that it has changed that is bugging me.

Its not the point at which the Flux Capacitor kicks in, is it?  :sun:

Theres very little to disturb or obstruct unless something has physically got in behind the pedal itself then it would have to be electrical. If you can't see anything obvious then I'd have it checked.

Fortunately not Jim. :D

Well I'm vindicated and am pleased to report I'm not going mad! :notme:

Got the top bolt out OK but no luck with the bottom fixings - Google search shows that a special two pronged tool is required. Obviously as per the link it can be done with a screwdriver but I couldn't do it and didn't want to cause any damage.

Anyway, I could just feel something down by the bottom pivot but couldn't see anything even with my illuminated mirror on a stick. I could just move it around with my finger but couldn't get it out. Moving it did cause the throttle to jam as originally reported or when moved again caused the additional resistance.

After much fiddling around with a cotton bud I got it out, an approx. 10mmm square electrical connector.

It should now drive as nicely as it did before.

Spot on chap.

Will you be having a word with the tow-bar fitter?

Will you be having a word with the tow-bar fitter?

I'd have a word or 3, what if he'd managed to jam the throttle open!!!

I certainly will.

Whilst it was very unlucky for it to go inside the throttle assembly he must have wondered where it had gone to?

He might charge you for it unless you hand it back....

I don't find that the ORB changes the feel of the pedal itself, just how the car responds to it.  The OP had a problem with the mechanical operation of the pedal.

Good.
