De-badge or not?

Featured Replies

If you de-badge you have to do the whole lot.

Just leaving the vRS badge says to me it is important that people know you drive a vRS but that you'd rather hide the fact you drive a Skoda.

All or nothing, anything else is a cop out!

Yeah I see where you're coming from but that's not how I see it, personally.

I think the skoda and Octavia badges make it look cluttered, and too much chrome. The vrs badge on its own works well I think. It's not like you're hiding that it's a Skoda!

Anyway, only people that know would care, and they'll know it's a vrs anyway. Anyone that doesn't won't care anyway. So whether its badged vrs or not makes no odds

There seem to be three sides to the debate...   1) Remove none 2) Remove all 3) Remove all but the vRS   They all have their place. Just like DSG vs. manual, petrol vs. diesel, race blue vs.any

in my opinion, it looks cluttered with all the badges, yet bare and incomplete with none. Plus, I'm not a chrome fan! Like all Skodas, does it need a "skoda" badge? Why state the obvious? Not many car manufacturers these days have to spell it out, a logo badge does it all. I don't see anything wrong with just the vrs badge on, at the end of the day, that's what it is, and sets it apart from any other Octavia. No one needs telling it's a "Skoda" "Octavia". I'm still undecided, purely as I am a fan of the stock look! But do see the aesthetic benefits of just keeping the "vrs".

Last Detail - Right rear

As someone said if your gonna do it do the lot,

I must be missing something somewhere along the way, the whole idea of de-badging is to de-clutter, going for the clean look?

In that case why wouldn't you remove the vRS badge?

I followed a 3 Series this morning, de-badged, but then he or she had stuck an 'M' badge on

No, you're not missing anything. De-cluttering and a clean look doesn't necessarily mean a bare look. It's still got a frickin great skoda badge on there, but less of that chrome sheit

That'll be a he, no doubt, and a douche. But this is something else completely!

Tell you what, I'm gonna de-badge the lot, then stick a vRS badge on! ;-)

Even better, stick one where SKODA was, another where OCTAVIA was and then another two, one on each front wing.

She'll look awesome!

Look again at the picture I posted.

Whats really cool is when they space the letters out O    C    T    A    V    I    A    (Not)

Not a very good angle.

I hear what your saying about sticking the M badge on say a 1800 Beamer, but leaving just the VRS badge isn't pretending to be something it's not.

If on the other hand debadging a 1.2Tsi then sticking the VRS badge on is a different matter!

I've removed the Skoda and Octavia but left the VRS. Looks much less cluttered now.

I was thinking of de-badging my Race Blue wagon but I'm worried it would look a bit bare. I've debadged a BMW 1118D Sport and a Mercedes C200 Sport in the past but that was only because the engine size was included in the badges and they weren't the largest engines on offer, whereas my Audi A3 2.0TDi was so that wasn't debadged.

The Octy doesn't have this 'problem' so it's not such an easy choice for me (although the S of the Skoda keeps catching and pulling my lambswool wash mitt which is a pain).

The VRS is quite notceably different from all the other models in the Octavia range so if I was going to do it it'd be all or nothing.

Nice! I do like that look. But it was more of a general reference, as obviously very few cars have emblem delete

Nothing wrong with a bit of badge fun, Skoda refuse to make the Yeti I want so I made it myself, with more bhp and more torque than a VRS plus 4x4 :)

Presenting my Yeti R project (my own concept patent pending ;) )

2) Remove all

They all have their place. Just like DSG vs. manual, petrol vs. diesel, race blue vs.any other colour, there will always be a difference of opinion.

I get no.1, leave as Skoda intended.

I get no. 2, wanting an uncluttered look or cleaner look, or even looking a bit more stealthier.

Number 3, I shouldn't have used the BMW example, as leaving the vRS badge on is as rightly pointed out earlier not pretending to be something it isn't.

I just can't help thinking that if you don't fall into 1 or 2 then deep down you want people to know you a driving a vRS, a bit of showmanship if you like.

Nothing wrong with this by the way, when it comes to badges I'm the worst of the lot.

Either way there is no right answer, just do what you feel is best for you.

Enjoy!

Just a thought, VW only puts GTI badge in their latest GTI models, no "Golf" or "Polo" as with the normal models.

Just get inventive and put "CITIGO" logo on it...that would properly confuse some people

If someone asks say that it's the genuine citigo and looks are just a side effect of fuel you are putting in it, or that you are feeding it with spinach, or made a special "detailing" session on it, or....

Thread here too

De-badge or not to de-badge that is the question?

I've debadged, left VRS on. It's nothing about badge snobbery, everyone can tell it's a skoda...

But I'm contemplating reapplying badges (bought new ones to go back on) as it looks a bit plain without them.

A step too far for me.

This however is taking the clean look to an extreme, save our wipers lol!

Totally agree.  You appear ashamed of your car if you keep vrs but not skoda.

Debadging isn't just about the cosmetic look, badges are crud magnets and trying to polish around them is a pain especially for those that like to machine polish when taping them up becomes neccessary. It's for that reason I debadge everything. When my newly ordered L and K Superb arrives that will be one of the first jobs especially the L and K logo on the wings which I do not like at all.

Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges

But it looks a bit too MAX POWER with none so I say keep the VRS but expunge the SKODA OCTAVIA. Since when did we all have to state our make, model, engine size, trim level and edition on our rears? I don;t have my I,Q. tattooed on my ass do i?

You must JUST the diesel vRS I think, just to be clear.

Being a diesel that's a lot of usable torque you pushing there though.

On the petrol you'd need to be stage 2-3 to get that level of torque from the petrol, although the petrol will be pushing 320-250ps+ at that level of map.....

By the way the best Yeti R project is already done, its Richard from this site .... although its a MKII. He'll be after you for copyright infringement !

- Its a 2.5TFSI from the Audi RS !

Not been done with a MK3 yet though if that gives you some scope for improvement ;)

PS I'm fully badged, no room for ****ing about with the car like this, just silly IMO.

Not a very good angle.

Almost as bad as a faux 8-character number plate?

Almost as bad as a faux 8-character number plate?

;)  :notme:

I wanted BR15 KRS, so would have spelt BRISK RS but someone beat me to it.

Oh and it's not an S at the end it's a bit of bird poo that just happens to be that shape, it must be the wind vortices around the rear of the car, honestly Officer!

It is reasonably brisk, it's a 220 Tsi with a DTUK box fitted so is around the 300 brake mark, but I can see where your coming from!
