Dealers using carwow to rip you off

Featured Replies

Hi all was looking at purchasing a pre built sel dsg and when on carwow and dealers sent there offers claiming they were great and only on further questioning did they say their great discounts included the current £1700 Skoda uk are offering. I was wondering if anybody had managed to get anymore discount or to at least warn you guys dealers are using this tactic to line their pockets.

And?

The dealership is a business that has to make a profit.

End of.

They are not "ripping off" anyone.

If the customer can't be bothered to look for a discount deal then it is the customers fault, not the dealers.

I found similar when we were shopping for our new Superb 3.

The offers back through carwow were pretty poor, and mostly included some standard Skoda offers anyway so weren't adding much (if anything) in the way of additional discount.

Which is why we bought through a broker for approx 21% (roughly £7k) less than list.

Carwow is a great tool it has been hugely successful and attracted a lot of investment from 3rd party investors so it cant be all bad., it is not only Skoda dealers that are using manufacturer contributions in their discounted offers to customers via Carwow. This is why there are 2 prices one for a cash purchase and one for a finance purchase. At the end of the day it is down to the individual to negotiate a deal that they are happy with using a sales channel that they are happy with.

I have recently purchased a Superb 3 and a Yeti, in both instances I used the Carwow quotes as a guide I then negotiated the deal with my local dealer who I must say has been excellent in both purchases. I personally would not use a broker as I would not be building the relationship with the dealer that I may rely on in the future to help me out in some way.

If the price is £1500 better than what you can negotiate face to face with a Skoda salesman what's to argue about.
When I bought mine thru Carwow it saved me about £3000, the most the dealer would knock off was about £1000 and that was before the present troubles were aired.

Also the best price thru Carwow was at a Skoda dealer only 7 miles from me.

You are getting a price for a car from Carwow, don't expect to go to the dealer to get more off.

PS: What was the cash price discount from Carwow? I'll bet it was a lot better than £1700.

Cash price didnt include the deposit contribution for the PCP offer

if you drive to the bottom and see off competition, then that only leaves a monopoly, and with that comes no competition along with poor customer service, and charge whatever you like.

I agree, the amendment as probably discussed in a bar somewhere sometime, is the local service centres, they specialise and collect etc so it's easy for you. One could argue the luxo market can make the bold steps first as people will do whatever for it. I guess you could also say, apple. Only a few stores, but key locations. Selected models allowed for sale elsewhere. But if you want the support and psst shazam then you head to the glossy showroom, at however many hundred miles it is.

The race to the bottom is what I'm not a fan off. We for one of many reasons lost our family business to the jjb and sports direct model. But dam and blast you cannot buy a specialist running shoe or spare snooker cue tips there, nor can you maintain the floor space just for snooker tips! That's why I don't see the multimillion independent business dealer model working much beyond 10 or 20 years, the next cycle. It will be car supermarkets or manufacturer supercenters with the independents being servicing centres...

Or worse we all use the public transport system.

The Tesla model will only work in the large urban areas, so what happens to the rest of us?

Large urban areas is most of us! Certainly enough to be getting on with.

I was happy with my last purchase using Carwow, got over £3k discount and excellent p/x price compared to offers from other Skoda and none Skoda dealers. Didn't take out a PCP so mine was a cash offer, was also a factory build order. Oh and don't forget about the £25 Carwow Amazon voucher.

Have CarWow used legalities to force BMW to participate yet?

No matter what the sales model, sales system, the outlet, the dealer, the franchise, at the end of the day the choice is with you the customer. If you are not happy then you do not buy.

Everyone who does business does so to make money and to employ staff and therefore to help everybody. You choose to do business with anyone and you decide to give them money. Get over it and don't disrespect people who are doing an honest job who pays the wages which feed your family and pay your wages.

They also have a schedule of test drive days you can book a slot in elsewhere. There was one in Buxton not long ago. https://www.teslamotors.com/en_GB/events

I'd also argue that it's a very high value, infrequent purchase, so a trip to a population center to see and test drive one, isn't that big a deal. Especially as people will already by that stage have informed themselves very well via the Tesla website, reviews and YouTube videos. If you made such a trip and didn't want to commit there and then, not a problem you can do the deal over the phone or Internet at a later point.

We went down to Melbourne CBD (130km) just to check out a Peugeot 2008, as it was the only one available to see.

Put 'trade plates' on it for a test drive and then began the px haggle, all in good humour, with the sticking point being their ability to dispose of the Yeti which was resolved after we went away and had some lunch.

They asked us when we would like to pick it up and I said cheekily "today" and they said ok and started the registering process in motion .

It was sales floor stock, so didn't need a PDI, but it was certainly an efficient transaction when considering the registration process with a govt authority.

As an aside; Subaru don't haggle at all as its done through a centralised single body it seems to me

Dealers don't advertise 'special' deals.....maybe they can be bought online also.

It's simple really. You can either pay the dealer list price, use Car Wow, Skodastore et al as a basis for getting a 'readily available' discount without having to haggle yourself or go via a broker and get an even better discount (although arguably the broker route can be more risky but the savings are greater). Where you stand morally on the issue of discounts is entirely up to you. A bit like asking do you buy your bread at the local bakery or at Lidl?
