Hi all,

Sorry to hear of your shunt ToffeeMRD

It was fine, not much damage at all. Wish my allowance would have allowed 4x4, was lucky to get what I did on the company car though!

  • So another week in and am I still as impressed as I was almost 4 weeks and 2,000 miles ago? Yes I am. However, a few interesting points have emerged when comparing to other older VAG cars. The fold

  • Sure you can open it up, but your tea will probably be cold now. Or is that not what you meant?

  • Quite the charmer. Don't think I'd drive over a cliff, have a few more brain cells than that. X

S6JOK - I also have a month old VRs 4 x4 estate in red. Where abouts are you? I'm in Glasgow and travel to Livingston every day. Fantastic car but needing to do something about mudflaps.

Please say you have witnesses?

The wife was reversed into while she was stationary in a supermarket car park, engine off.

The woman who hit her apologised profusely and said "I wasn't paying attention"........three hours later, after having obviously been asked about witnesses by her bloke, her story had changed to "I think we're both to blame". :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear:

And the insurance companies went knock for knock and bang went the wife's no claims bonus.

Phoned fleet management group this morning with an update that I've got dashcam footage, they'll contact me if they need it. Cheers for prompting me re that info on witnesses (or lack of)....

I'm from just outside Stirling  - travel to Glasgow to work  :D !

Yes I think mudflaps are a must, we need to get them fitted ASAP too I think!

Yes I do agree fantastic car, loving is so far!

I'll keep my eyes peeled for you, nice colour choice  :D !!!

S6JOK, mudflaps ordered.

My only disappointment is fuel consumption which is very variable despite seemingly similar journeys, most of which are speed or traffic restricted to 50mph. Now done 5,000 miles and averaging 43/44mpg although briefly saw 50mpg last night perhaps due to milder weather. Have come out of company car so paying this out of my pocket. Previous car was Insignia Tourer 160bhp and average 49/50 mpg in the same conditions. Would have thought lighter, newer car with far lower CO2, despite being automatic, more powerful and 4 x4 would have at least matched that if not using the performance.

I'd hate to think how filthy my car would get from driving around Glasgow without mudflaps.  It's bad enough with them!

Mudflaps ordered from Superskoda on Monday and delivered yesterday, from Check Republic. Terrific service.

Excellent service are you fitting them yourself?

I do agree MPG is lower than expected, hopefully this will improve with age/mileage, although I'm hardly Driving Like Miss Daisy which doesn't help. 40mpg on my commute to work this morning which was pretty good and still had a wee bit o fun!  I'm averaging 35mpg due to a heavy left foot and smiles per gallon!!!

How does your Skoda compare to your previous car the Insignia?  Personally I'm not a Vauxhall lover - doesn't mean they're not a good car obviously.

Keep me posted regarding the fitting of the mud flaps.

"heavy left foot" ???

"heavy left foot" ???

Well Spotted  :D !!!

A light left foot at the moment as it does hee haw, time to get back into the left foot braking I think!

I ordered a boot mat and flaps from Super Skoda and they arrived in about 3 days I think, fitted the flaps and they are keeping the sides a lot cleaner, it's only done about 800 miles but every little helps and they are very unobtrusive, not topped my one up with oil yet but I have been trying my level best not to be daft with it, I will give it the beans but not until its hit the magic 90c, love it though, best car I've owned and licence losing speed is a daily risk, much the same reason why I sold my bike ..lol

Mud flaps fitted. Easy job but took about an hour. Should have gone straight to removing wheels rather than trying with them on. Hardest part was removing th wheelnut covers and one set of nuts that needed socket and long Tommy bar. Glad I hadn't a puncture. Would only take half the time the next time.

Insignia was a company car and fine for commuting 60 miles a day on the M8. Quality good for 5 years and 115k miles and economy excellent. Not very exciting drive but you may see from my name that my Caterham provides that. DSG is great for stop start driving that forms 30 minutes of my daily commute and still interesting for A road driving at the weekend. Traction from 4wd is terrific. Am sure it is roomier inside and in the boot than the Insignia.

Did you use the plastic tweezers to take the wheel nut caps off..?, yup I was the same, needed to drill a 7mm hole to push the plastic clip into and there's no space to drill with the front wheel on, in fact it wasn't that easy with it off...lol

Cheers MarkC

I just turned the wheels full lock and drilled the hole at an angle. Worked perfectly.

Mudflaps make a big difference, hardly need to use rear wiper.

Awesome! Mine arrived from Ireland earlier in the week, so getting fitted this weekend. Hoping it helps reduce non front stone chips too

Exept on combi/estate.. rear allways pitch black ;D

Bumber stays on better condition with mudflaps, rocks dont eat paint away behind tire.

I also have an estate and can only vouch for 5 days of commuting 60 miles per day on the M8. Haven't seen the car in daylight since Sunday so back may be filthy but now have hardly had to use rear wipe and only used wash once since mudflaps fitted. Appreciate that I'm not driving on the roads that Ari Vaatanen was brought up on.

Did you fit them yourself? Tempted to see how much they are fitted by Skoda...

Had the car fixed this week by auto restore after the bump from behind. They did a superb job and looks like new, no issues behind bumper either. Always amazes me what comes out of that van - reminds me of E.T. (if you're born in the 90's, you may have to google it!).

Set up (excuse front lawn, being relaid next summer!):

On a separate note, a good friend had his A4 (177bhp) engine worked on and it now delivers 215bhp and over 300lb/ft of torque. The acceleration was brutal - helped by it being Quattro. If it wasn't a company car, I'd definitely get the engine chipped, although I think 4x4 would enable you to get the power down far better.

Results look good! :)

So, almost 16,000 miles in and I had to change the front tyres as they were at 2mm - lease company's guidelines. Interestingly I couldn't have Pirelli P Zero as the lease company (Arval) apparently don't like Pirelli! They put Michelin Super Sports on, couple of hundred miles in and grip is much better (to be expected with lots more tread!) and can't notice any extra road noise at the moment. Not sure if my P Zero's lasted that well - interesting to hear at what miles other vRS TDi drivers changed their front ones?

Excuse the dirt!!

I think you will find the Michelins are just better tyres than the Pirelli.

On normal bitumen roads a legal tread is really only required to avoid aquaplaning in really wet conditions. Tyre tread does not contribute to better grip on dry roads.

A deep tread does provide better grip in adverse off-road conditions though.

16,700 if memory serves me correctly?

Rotated once at about 9k so I had to change all four.
