vRS TDI so far...

I think you will find the Michelins are just better tyres than the Pirelli.

On normal bitumen roads a legal tread is really only required to avoid aquaplaning in really wet conditions. Tyre tread does not contribute to better grip on dry roads.

A deep tread does provide better grip in adverse off-road conditions though.

Unfortunately I don't have the 4x4, so won't be going on any planned off-road excursions - although my sat navy has taken me down some great single lane tracks! Good to know re Michelin. Used to swear by Continental Sport on old cars.

  • So another week in and am I still as impressed as I was almost 4 weeks and 2,000 miles ago? Yes I am. However, a few interesting points have emerged when comparing to other older VAG cars. The fold

16,700 if memory serves me correctly?

Rotated once at about 9k so I had to change all four.

About right then. Managed to go through tyres in around 12,000 miles on my old Ibiza FR, but did push that a little harder!

Did you fit them yourself? Tempted to see how much they are fitted by Skoda...

Had them fitted to my RS, front and back by my dealers. Cost was €80, probably get it done for about £60 but IMO was worth it.

On a separate note, a good friend had his A4 (177bhp) engine worked on and it now delivers 215bhp and over 300lb/ft of torque. The acceleration was brutal - helped by it being Quattro. If it wasn't a company car, I'd definitely get the engine chipped, although I think 4x4 would enable you to get the power down far better.

I think you are even beating me with the amount of bodywork repairs to your company's car.

Will ask at 1st service - very tempted to save the amount of cleaning I currently do, although get money from work each month for that!

Haha! 3 minor ones so far and, thankfully, none to go against my no claims. How many are you up to?

6 paint repairs. Factory paint job was bad

Hi. my only gripe is a lack of decent cup holders .

Yep, no where near as good as old Passat. Found one cup which fits well through:

Link doesn't open by clicking it, copying the text and pasting it to another browser window does work.

This way it does work:

So I've used the built in ice scraper a few times and think it's a great little thought and addition from Skoda. Works a treat for me and has saved a few minutes the past few mornings! The little things....

As much as I don't like red, that's rather nice!! ;)

Cheers Toffee!  I do like the blue as you can see but fancied something a bit different this time.

I've just got it back from the detailers today, I had it Ceramic coated it looks good as you can see from the following pics.  Hopefully I can keep it looking this good too!

Looks superb. Would be interested to know how it holds up in this weather with that detailing. Had mine done apx 6 months ago, so needs attention again!

Thanks! Did you have a Ceramic Coating too or was yours a wax?

I'm led to believe the Ceramic Coatings are supposed to last for years given the proper TLC which is relatively low maintenance so I'm told, time will tell, fingers crossed! :wonder:

Where did you get the coating done? Can I ask how much?

It was a wax, so hence the need for another session! Wondering if a ceramic coating could be a DIY job...

Had my VRS coated with Si Ramik early Nov. Benefits are said to be: potential durability of over 3yrs; car stays cleaner longer; tougher finish than wax protection so is far more tolerant of the wash maintenance; extremely water repellent so washes are far easier and drying requires less effort. Reduced adhesion of dirt, especially noticeable in the lower areas. Greater protection against the impact of bird lime on paint surface. Plus of course, a super shine.

Haven't really seen a need to wash the car until yesterday and this following a recent journey and stay in the SW, so plenty of opportunity for dust, grime, rain, road debris, etc. during that time. I fealt the car was ready for a wash but didn't appreciate how much muck had built up over 2mths and 1500mls until I saw the colour difference between water in the wash and rinse buckets. I found the whole wash and dry process required very little effort and the car looks absolutely beautiful even on these dull days. So far, so good and hope this continues (I did have the wheels removed and treated, as well as having the leather upholstery treated and protected). With a few years under my belt I am all for minimising my work effort and from yesterdays results think I made a good choice.

Hi Redcat it was done by Gordon Muir at Defined Details, Cambuslang, very good reviews on various forums, look him up he's also got videos on You Tube.

As my car was as new I didn't require a machine polish to remove swirls and imperfections. He wants to know about how you use the car mileage, motorway etc and tailors each car detail to suit.

I was £350 for the ceramic detail and i spent another £50 on aftercare products £20 of which was on a gallon of snow foam as he didn't have any smaller, should last a while!  :D

I would not think so Toffee he had my car inside his garage for 3 days, he has to be a certified/qualified CQuartz technician before you can apply the product!

The following is a quote from his website followed by the process from the CQuartz website. - "ANY COMPANY CAN BOAST THAT THEY USE THE BEST PRODUCTS ON THE MARKET, BUT IF THEY ARE NOT APPLIED CORRECTLY, THEN THEY MAY HAVE CAUSED MORE HARM THAN GOOD"

ANY COMPANY CAN BOAST THAT THEY USE THE BEST PRODUCTS ON THE MARKET, BUT IF THEY ARE NOT APPLIED          Your Finest Authorized Detailer uses only top tier products on your vehicle.  They start with a high level auto wash followed by an extremely detailed 2-3 step decontamination process to remove all bonded contaminants from above and beneath the surface of the paint.

Following the “decon” process the paint is further analyzed and the best combinations of high tech pads and polishes are tested to produce the highest gloss possible.  This may include polishing the entire vehicle 2 and sometimes 3 times to reach this level.

After the paint is perfected all the polishing oils are stripped from the vehicle with the use of CarPro Eraser.  This step is essential so that CQ Finest will fully bond with the paint.  When the paint is determined to be 100% oil free, 2 thick layers of CQ Finest are applied.

Additional services including coating of interior, glass, convertible top, plastic trim, brightwork, and wheel coating are also offered by our installers.  Some of these items may be included in your Finest package or may be offered À la carte.  Ask your Finest installer for more details.

CarPro Finest Installers make up a global network of professionals who proudly offer a warranty on our flagship coating.  This warranty states that Finest will not bubble, yellow, peel, oxidize, or lose more than 20% gloss over 2 years.MORE HARM THAN GOOD"CAN BOAST THAT THEY USE THE BEST PRODUCTS ON THE MARKET, BUT IF THEY ARE NOT A

Sounds like you've had some good results there!

Yes I'm hoping for the same with CQuartz.  I had the wheels done too, didn't bother with the black leather he advised me I wouldn't require too, if it was a light colour leather he would have recommended a treatment he said.

Thanks, I will check it out as I stay in Cambuslang. What product was it and has anyone had it on their car for a while who can comment on it's long term survival?

Sorry, only read the last post and see you've already said it was Cquartz.
