Mini Cooper S to Fabia VRs..newbie

Featured Replies

Hi,

Joined up here quite some time ago but spend most of the time on Mini forums etc so thought for various resons its about time I posted my 1st post :).

Im now on my second Mini Cooper S which I enjoy very much, however after owning and running them since 2002 (before every estate agent and hairdresser got one :D ) ive found them to be great cars to drive and own but have had various problems with both which I never expierianced on a previous BMW I owned, the quality is still some way off BMW despite them being the parent company. Insurance, running costs and the fact Ive clocked up 45,000miles since Feb 04 have made me decide to change, however I wont be clocking this kind of mileage up anymore :)

Anyway ive thought long and hard and (think? :D ) know my cars pretty well, I know what a great car the Fabia VRS is and im about to take the plunge with either a silver or black one, any advise on buying or things to watch out for I.E minor faults/fixes that may occur would be greatly appriciated.

I will be going down the re-map road and have been looking around for the best place and option to go for, any advise on the best option would again be greatly appriciated.

What kind of power gains would I be likely to get?

Ive also just had my insurance renewal for my Cooper S grrrr!

Hello and welcome to you!

Welcome to the forum!

Some suggestions:

Remap: Custom Code

Suspension: Eibach Springs (Jabba Sport Group Buy) and Koni Dampers, or H&R Coilovers

Air Filter: Green Panel

Air Intake: Seat Ibiza PD160

Brakes: Audi TT/Octavia vRS (312mm)

I'm also 28 with full ncb and I pay about £550 a year f/c with the above mods and lots more declared.

Let us know what you decide on and put some pics up when you get your new car!

Don't get a black one, unless you want it to look carped up all the time.

Silver keeps much better.

Jonno(BLACK vrs fab):D

Oh yea, get xenons as an option.

Toughie :D ...added some comments non the less :)

Josh - some nice mods will certainly be going for some eibachs etc and the custom code... isnt that available from the place at Chesterfield? ...am only in Sheffield so would be handy :)

Have to say do like it in black but equally like it in silver...hmmm! decisions decisions :D

Hi and welcome....

Don't get black ...once you have washed and polished it you have only seconds to take a picture before it gets dirty again :D

I'm starting to think there is some sort of black conspiricy going on!!

No don't get black get one of the more common and less attractive colours, yellow or something. Lets keep the black for the select few.

Silver is a lot more forgiving than black... Stone chips and small scratches/swirl marks are almost invisible on a silver car, vs very obvious on a black car (with white primer underneath!).

Yeah, I got pretty much everything done at JBS in Chesterfield... Great bunch down there, good prices and they know what they're doing.

Nice to see you're from Sheffield... Another local! :)

I live near Chesterfield too. Hmmm JBS...where is that? is it near the end of the bypass? I will be getting my VRS in march so I will probably go down there in the summer.

what can you have done at JBS? is it just the springs, dampers etc or do they remap and other stuff?

My Fabia VRS will be in black. I havn't seen any on the road just silver one's. Black is by far the best looking colour and quite rare in my area. My car at the moment is black and yes when it is dirty it does look bad but all you have to do is wash it and it looks the biz!!

it is shameful to see any car really dirty... you pay well over 10k for a car soo look after it!

Maybe it's me but I find it strange to see that other ppl don't seem to look after thier motors. They must have far too much money to care!!

Welcome to Briskoda

Hi

Yes we are just off the Sheffield bypass just at the side of Autoworld.

We can offer all modifications including the remap.

Suspension , brakes , clutches , turbo`s we do the lot.

We can service your car even when it is still within warranty thanks to "Block Excemption".

We also do fault diagnosis.

Our rolling road will hopefully be up and running soon too and then we have big rolling road days.

These are great fun and gives you the oportunity to put names to faces.

If you want any information on what we do you could check out our web site on www.jbsautodesigns.co.uk or just give us a call on 01246 455005

I come on here most days so you could also put a post on our site on this great friendly forum.

Anyway welcome to this forum as it is fun and friendly

Thank you

Happy New Year

Sarah

well i may just have to pop in when I get my VRS, its only like 5 mins away from me. Thinking about a remap after I add some zero's to the clock. thanks for the info sounds great.

Hi Chris

Yes it is.

If your that close pop down to see us as we have some rolling road printouts that will be able to show you just how smooth the power comes in.

They are great cars and with a remap you WILL have more fun with it.

Hehe....cheeky...nah Cooper's and Ones are for the hairdressers, mind you I got my first S (this being the second one) back in 02 before all the estate agents and hairdressers decided to adopt it as a fashion accessory....right up your bumper? I must have been in some kind of rush :D

Ive looked at nearly new VRS's and new ones, but at the end of the day i dont want to have to pay a penny to swap which I dont think is unreasonable :)

Don't get a black one, unless you want it to look carped up all the time

 Carped???

By the way IMO it looks best in Black. Reasons:

1. Red- The green parts look daft against it

2. Yellow- Girly

3. Not bad but the black plastic parts make it look cheap

4. Black. Not easy to keep clean BUT it looks superb

I went thru Dronfield on the train once

fantastic place to live/drive.....until speed bumps were introduced and the c h a v group united.

i wonder if there is anyone else on briskoda who live in dronfield??

Hi and welcome,

if your getting one, get it with xenons and ESP. ESP is very helpful, especialy as all the roads round me are fast twisty roads with some naughty corners that will getcha if your misbehaving. never been to Dronfield tho. might be through there when i finally get my furbie to JBS for that uprated clutch, that you will need if you get it re-mapped, oh the joys of too much torque. :orb_upset

mine is with ESP and Xenon, Heated seats and cruise control. So im kinda all prepared for them conditions.

the area around dronfield has many twisty road so will be fun. its like 2 mins away from the peak distric too so nice lonf windy roads there too.

also close to the "13 bends" raod where people die all the time for going too fast cos they dont have ESP !
