Hi does anyone know if the SD card slot (Bolero) is compatible with the micro SDHC cards (with adaptor) ?

As these are available in large capacity (128Gb) and my plan is to use this for mp3 music files in the same way as an iPod.

Would this work, or do I need to be looking at standard SD cards which are much smaller capacity ? (I have large audio library!)

The adaptors work fine and the only size limitation will be down to which firmware you have.

Thanks, its a Bolero unit (CD no satnav) so do you know the size limit ?

There's no mention of capacity in the owners book

Or if anyone has email address for Skoda UK customer service ?

Do not know maximum size limitation, but I have a 32Gb micro SD card in my Bolero.

I may be misinterpreting your post about the maximum capacity of SD cards being smaller than micro SD cards, but I have a 128Gb SD card in my Roadhawk dashcam.

This recent thread http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/399940-sd-card-reader-in-the-bolero/ indicates that the SD card must be slower than Class 10 to work effectively. You may find that a 128Gb is only available at higher speeds.

I use a 32Gb class 4 and others have used class 6, but class 10 seems too fast. This is also my experience in other older SD readers.

The class number refers to how fast it will transfer or receive data and consequently how long it takes to write music to your card.

 

Any 'low number' card will play okay in the Bolero but the higher the better for writing and class 10 cannot be termed as 'too fast'!

So sounds like the general opinion is 32gb as a maximum size card, and a lower than class 10, preferably class 4 or 6 - this should prevent any problems.

Fin69 - sorry I didnt mean SD cards are smaller capacity than micro SD, just that the all the high capacity cards I could find available were micro SD (64 / 128) But looks like they wont work now anyway, 

I tried a card I already bought for my mobile (32Gb micro SDHC  class 10) and got error message from head unit, so trying to reformat on Laptop Windows 10 to FAT32 and it keeps saying its "write protected" even though its unlocked on the slider. Sometimes it looks like its reformatting for ages then comes up write protected again!  Any ideas? 

Re. the reformatting problems have you tried it in a different computer, or  - to go down the cliche route - tried switching the laptop off and on again..?!

 

Apologies for the hijack but FWIW I was running a Micro SDHC (in an adaptor) class 10 64Gb card in my Bolero with no problem until I decided to add some MP3 files from my father's Windows 10 laptop.

Same file type, same folder structure - only difference being that the card had until then been exclusively filled up with MP3 files from an iMac.

 

Anyway - upon returning the SD card to the car it refused to read it - the message on screen after the inevitable "Processing" being that there was a card error.

 

It took a complete reformat of the card (on the Mac) before the car would acknowledge its existence again.

 

So far as I was aware, FAT32 formatting should be compatible with both Windows and OSX - maybe the lack of Finder 'ghost files' which the Mac generates confused the system after adding the MP3s from the Windows machine?

 

I am running what I think is probably a older version of the firmware so maybe the 64Gb might have been a bit much for it (I understand that 32Gb is the largest recommended memory capacity).

 

Might be worth bearing in mind if you intend swapping the memory card between operating systems anyway.

I found the problem with the re-formatting in the end - it was the micro SD card adaptor which when you slid it into the laptop SD slot, the lock slider would catch and go into locked position - terrible design! 

Conclusion: Don't buy cheap micro SD card / adaptors from China for about £4 !

After all that, I'm probably going to change the whole unit now and get an Android head unit with Satnav etc, (also made in China but feedback is generally good!). see this thread:

I was advised the standard FAT32.

Tried the quick format and the slow format - same result. 

FAT32 is what you want do not format to NTFS file system. I have 32GB card in mine two of them in fact class 10 and they are superb no issues at all.

I plugged my SD in last week and didn't format the card at all, worked fine, would formatting the card confuse the stereo?

Put a 32gb class 10 micro SD in my recently acquired 2011 with no problems. All music was 196kb/s fixed sample rate, if that helps.

Sounds like a faulty SD card reader, or the unit software refusing to recognise the cards.

Yes I did try the new card first of all without any formatting and still got the same error message.

It does sound like the reader / head unit is faulty, or an old level software I read about somewhere. 

How do I upgrade the software/OS etc ?
