How do you figure this out? Currently insured with Adrian Flux with modified Fabia vRS, all mods declared , premium £249.

Now I've ditched the Fabia for a bog standard Kia Cee'd 1,6CDRi, premium £426 .

On the one hand a 200BHP car 0 - 60 in 7 secs, & on the other a 126BHP car 0 - 60 in about 10 minutes.

How can they justify a hike in premium of well over 60%, for a much slower car? The mind boggles.

The portion of the premium derived from the vehicle does not simply rely simply on its power and speed.

The majority of claims arise at speeds of less than 30 mph, and the amount of damage caused and the relative cost of commonly required parts, time to repair etc. from these types of accidents are also taken into account.

Appreciated. I believe the cost of Kia parts is way down the list, & certainly cheaper than Skoda!

Kia maybe worth more or Kia drivers just more prone to making claims.

Plus if you're changing vehicle mid way through a year they've no incentive to offer you a good deal since it costs a fortune to cancel.

Because anyone changing from a 200 BHP modified Fabia VRS to a Kia Cee'd must be a stark raging loonie with his head on backwards, and having your head on backwards increases the chance of ending up parked in a tree by many times.

:D Ha ha, why? You not like the Fabia?

I've loved the Fabia for the 3 years I have had one. But, I'm getting on in years now, (coming on 72), a couple of weeks ago I got done for speeding at 4.30am by an unmarked police car. This is my first offence in 53 years of driving! I always said that once I got caught I would get rid. Plus, driving to Spain & back 3 times a year, requires something a bit more comfortable. Driving for 10 hours a day with hard suspension, noisy exhaust & high road noise takes it out of you. I still get my kicks, far more than a vRS can give me by flying a 3rd generation microlight (top speed 120knots), & a gyrocopter. No speed cameras up there!

The age of vehicle will have a big effect on the premium too. If the Kia is much newer than the Fabia, then this may well account for much of the difference.

Did you broker not offer you an explanation? If not, ask them.

Hi,

I'm sorry we were unable to offer you a lower premium for your standard vehicle. I appreciate it can be frustrating when switching from one of our specialist modified schemes. Statistically new purchase vehicles has a have a far higher chance of making a claims than one that has been owned for say 12 months.

We are constantly trying to improve our change of vehicle rates though.

If you wanted to PM me your details I'd be happy to take another look at it to see if there is anything further we can do.

Regards,

Dan.

My renewal's come in at £370, but Quote Me Happy (Aviva) have come in at £220, which is interesting.  I'm waiting to hear from my current insurer to see what they can do.

I've just asked about if I fit the DTUK FSR tuning box sitting next to me and it's going to add a 25% loading to my insurance.  I'm sure I read someone on here just had to pay a £25 admin fee to Aviva, but typically, I can't find that post now  :dull:
