What undercover cars do the traffic police use in your area?

Featured Replies

As the title asks, what cars do the traffic police use in your area? Where I am they have at least 3 BMW estate cars, all 16 plates with blackout windows, fantastic looking car really. Also use Astra J again, blacked out and may also usa a Skoda Octavia/Superb again blacked out.

The Skoda could just be a civvy though, they also don't wear the high vis stab vests either.

i10's round Peterborough, which strangely all seem to have towbars. I've come to the conclusion that it's for a cycle carrier, so they can stick a racing bike on in case they need to chase something.

  • If it's a BMW in the inside lane, then it's an un-marked police car for sure!!   The Proceeds of Crime act has allowed the police to keep cars confiscated from criminals and I believe some of those

^^^ You have plenty of Nuclear, Military & Transport Police vehicles in your area, and the HMRC Customs and Excise.

Then the Armed Response vehicles.

Have you not noticed the Unmarked Volvo's, Jaguars, Audi's, Citroen's, VW CC's etc.

Haven't noticed the Volvos and that to be honest, only know about the BMW as 1 pulled me and another motorist, seen another different colour BMW also perform a traffic stop.

I'll keep my eyes peeled now though

BMW's round this way, but then they wear a uniform to give the game away !!

The Proceeds of Crime act has allowed the police to keep cars confiscated from criminals and I believe some of those have been converted for un-marked / covert use.

Mainly BMW's these days, 5 series, X5's etc....easy to spot as they have a small strobe on the corner of the bumpers and are driven correctly (including using the indicators - kind of gives the game away really :D )

We do have a lot of military round here too (with the SAS base nearby) and it's easy to spot those unmarked as they usually travel in pairs - saw a pair of new Octavia's a week or two ago following each other closely.

5 series beemers round here. Usually dark blue.

Have seen Volvos and Mondeo's as well.

Steven2016,

keep a look out for the Silver V60 Polestar's & Golf R Estates in various colours, you might see one coming up behind you fast or not even see that until they are passing without blues and 2's.

Especially around the Perth Area & North.

& do not get into a race situation with a A4 or S3 without being sure.

Across the A93 & along Deeside & across to Grantown on Spey you will see Fast Audi's and others of the Royal Protection or even Royals driving, they sometimes give you a wee flash of the Blues once past to let you know you were just Tangoed.

I'm west coast mate, i'd imagine same rules apply though. Also I couldn't possibly race an Audi, I've only got a 1.4

Think it's 5 series here aswell, I stress think a lot here haha. Seen black, gun metal and a dark blue 1, all estates

Aroung us we have a couple of silver 5 series BMW and a People carrier. There once was a Scooby Sti flying around buy I haven't seen it for a while

They use the above around my area (Manchester) but I've also seen a silver Audi A4 and an A6 estate on my travels.

Mostly Audi's. Traffic seem to have gone back to a marked car round here.

Peterborough have a couple of either Kia Sportages or the Hyundai version, not too sure which. They seem to be be all black, and they don't indicate.

Further up the coast, the dog van is a very, very discrete A6 estate.

They seem to be getting better at making them as un-noticable as possible.

A black 5 series and a black or blue 5 series estate as far as I know.

My uncle is a traffic and pursuit driver in Dorset, he has a nice selection: Focus ST's, 3 series and an A6 which was recently replaced with a 335d that he said is phenomenal.

About the Evo's you used to see being used by traffic police: they stopped using them as there was numerous cases of the driver being pursued simply stopping, reversing into the front of the Evo, smashing its intercooler to bits and therefore rendering it useless.

We've got one of those (X5) on a drive near me on a regular basis - dark grey and you'd struggle to notice it if not for the small strobes on the bumpers.

I've also seen a couple of A4's and a 3 series estate...

A wide range. One day I'd like to see them use the CID Fabia for Traffic work. Reason- then perhaps boy racer might respect other Fabia drivers.

Skoda were maybe 'Simply Clever' and delivered liveried up or just fitted with Blue Lights & Siren cars to Police Forces giving them to civilian workers & involved in Tax Evasion.

Hampshire;

MkII Octavia vRS (camera in rear spoiler, strobes gaffer taped to the rear bumper lol) Mondeos, Bimmers to name a couple.

Volvo, BMW, Vauxhall, Hyundai (or some other fake 4x4 - maybe a Kia Sportage?) and one of the other 'smaller' Asian makes.

I've certainly seen a few unexpected choices recently - which is good, and the point.

Cheshire - that I've spotted, unmarked X5, dark grey and 3s and 5s. They tend to like their BMWs :)

GMP - I've seen a mixture. Unmarked 3-Series, A4 (Scottish 12-plate spotted pulling someone on M60, so don't assume they'll be locally registered), S3, and a few M135is that are run on 17s for tyre cost reasons. Amusing to look at, but still go well :)

All tend to be black or grey.

Northumbria has not long taken delivery of an unmarked gray octavia vrs estate tsi. Only give away is the anpr camera mounted on the rear o/s of the roof.

I'd have thought in Cheshire they'd be driving Q5's and Range Rover Sports lol

And in Essex- White Evoques. Most possibly regs in Essex require Police  to wear trousers- well the white stilettos and knickers round ankle make getting out hard ( and that's just th blokes )
